Overview
Directed putaway on the Logiwa IO mobile app tells the operator where to take the stock they're holding. The operator scans the stock, Logiwa IO shows a Suggested Location from your putaway algorithm, and the operator takes the stock there and scans the target to finish.
This article covers the screens and steps. For how the location is chosen, see How the Putaway Algorithm Chooses a Location.
When to use it
Use directed putaway when you want the system, not the operator, to decide where stock goes: after receiving, when emptying a staging area, or when clearing returns back to stock. To move stock to a location the operator picks, use a regular transfer instead (see Transfers on Mobile).
Prerequisites
An active putaway algorithm for the warehouse (see Create a Putaway Algorithm).
Role access on the user's role, under Mobile > Transfer (Mobile): View Directed Putaway, plus View Product Put Away in Directed Put Away for the product options, View LP Put Away in Directed Putaway for the LP option and Sequential LP Putaway for LP (Sequential).
Choosing a putaway option
On the mobile app, go to Transfer > Directed Putaway. The Select Directed Putaway Method screen offers:
Option | What you scan | Quantity | Example |
Product (Bulk) | Source location or LP, then the product | You enter it (or scan items one by one) | 48 units of SKU-TEE-M from receiving dock R-01 to a shelf |
Product (one-by-one) | Source location or LP, then each unit | Always 1, no quantity entry | A tote of 15 mixed returns, put back piece by piece |
Directed LP Putaway | One LP | The whole LP | Received pallet PAL-2210 to a rack position |
LP (Sequential) | A parent LP holding several child LPs | Each child LP in turn | A cart of 12 totes put away in one walk |
LP (Sequential) has its own guide: see Sequential Putaway for Parent LPs.
Step-by-step: Product (Bulk)
Tap Product (Bulk).
Scan the Source Location/LP. You can scan an LP's LP Number or its Alternate Barcode.
Scan the Product. If needed, choose the pack type, damage reason, lot or dates in the bottom sheets. A barcode template can fill these in for you (see below).
Enter the quantity, or scan the items one by one instead of typing it.
The target screen shows the Suggested Location, Total Putaway QTY and Remaining Putaway QTY.
Take the stock to the suggested location. If you're placing only part of it here, adjust Putaway Quantity first. Then scan the location in Target Location/LP: scanning the target completes the putaway.
Logiwa IO moves the stock and shows a summary. If you placed only part of the quantity, Remaining Putaway QTY goes down by what you placed. To put the rest away, tap Suggest Another to get a new suggestion.
Example: You put away 100 units, but the suggested location only has room for 25. You set Putaway Quantity to 25 and scan the location. Remaining Putaway QTY drops from 100 to 75. Tap Suggest Another to get a location for the other 75.
Step-by-step: Product (one-by-one)
Tap Product (one-by-one). The One-by-One Putaway screen opens.
Scan the Source Location/LP.
Scan a unit of the Product. Pack type, lot or date sheets appear only if needed. No quantity sheet appears.
The target screen shows the Suggested Location for 1 unit.
Scan the Target Location/LP. The putaway of 1 unit is submitted straight away and you return to the start screen for the next unit.
đĄ Turn on Lock Source Location/LP after scanning the source so you don't have to rescan the tote for every unit. See One-by-One Transfers & Lock Source Location.
Step-by-step: Directed LP Putaway
Tap Directed LP Putaway.
Scan the LP (LP Number or Alternate Barcode).
The Suggested Location appears. An LP always goes to one location; it's never split.
Take the LP there and scan the target location, or a parent LP that's already at that location to nest the LP onto it.
Logiwa IO moves the whole LP and shows a summary.
The Suggested Location card
The card shows where the algorithm wants the stock to go. Behind the scenes, the suggestion reserves that space for you for a short time, so other operators aren't sent to fill it. The reservation ends when you finish the putaway, in any quantity and any location. See Understanding Soft Allocation in Putaway.
No suggestion. If the algorithm finds no location, no location is shown. You can still scan a target of your choice unless Force Suggested Location is on. See Why Wasn't a Putaway Location Suggested?
Suggest Another
Tap Suggest Another for a different location. The new suggestion skips the locations you've already been offered, and your reservation moves to the new location. When there are no more alternatives, no location is shown.
Example: You're sent to B-14, but a forklift is blocking the aisle. Tap Suggest Another and you're offered B-22; B-14 is freed for other operators straight away.
Force Suggested Location
If the putaway algorithm has Force Suggested Location turned on, you can only finish the putaway at the suggested location, at an LP already in that location, or at an empty LP in that location. Any other target is blocked, and if there's no suggestion at all, the putaway is blocked too. This only applies to directed putaway, not to regular transfers. See Enforcing Suggested Locations During Putaway.
Options and helpers on the putaway screens
Feature | Where | What it does | Example |
Lock Source Location/LP | Product (Bulk), Product (one-by-one) | Keeps the source filled in between putaways | Lock tote T-88 and scan 20 units without rescanning it. See One-by-One Transfers & Lock Source Location |
Enable Converting to Units | Product (Bulk), Product (one-by-one), 3-dot menu | Breaks a higher pack type into units as you put it away | See below |
Barcode templates | Product (Bulk), Product (one-by-one), product scan only | Fills in lot, expiry and production date from the scanned barcode | See below and GS1 and Custom Barcode Parsing |
Alternate barcode | Every LP scan | Accepts an LP's Alternate Barcode as well as its LP Number | Scan the supplier's SSCC label on PAL-2210 instead of the Logiwa IO label. See Managing License Plate (LP) Numbers |
Location change confirmation | Every target scan | Shows or asks you to confirm the target LP's location | See below |
Enable Converting to Units
Open the 3-dot menu and turn on Enable Converting to Units to put a higher pack type (for example a case) away as units (UOM, the product's unit of measure). The toggle only appears if your role has View Convert to UOM option under Bulk Product Directed Putaway (or âŚOne-by-One Product Directed Putaway for one-by-one) and the product's pack type has a unit ratio set up. If the stock has a damage reason or isn't in Stock status, conversion is refused with an error message.
When it's on:
The product card shows the conversion, for example Case â Unit.
A banner warns that the location suggestion is based on the original pack type. The suggested location isn't recalculated for units, so check it suits loose units before you confirm. Suggest Another gives a suggestion based on units.
The stock arrives in the target as units, keeping its lot, dates and purchase order.
The toggle turns itself off after each putaway.
Example: You scan 3 cases of SKU-MUG (12 units per case) and turn on the toggle. After you confirm, 36 units are placed in the target location.
For more, see Converting Higher Pack Types to UOM on Mobile (Transfers & Putaway), and Understanding Pack Type Conversion: Lineage, Limitations and Audit Trail for what's kept and what the history shows. For what UOM and parent pack types are, see What Are UOM and Parent Pack Types?
Barcode templates
If your warehouse has an active barcode template, scanning a product barcode can fill in the Lot, Expiry Date and Production Date for you. Templates are tried in priority order and the first match is used.
All tracked fields filled: the bottom sheet is skipped.
Some filled: the sheet opens with those fields already in, and you enter the rest.
No match: the usual sheet opens; nothing is blocked.
In Product (one-by-one), the target scan only becomes available once every tracked field is filled, so a unit is never put away with a missing lot or date.
Example: A GS1 barcode holds the GTIN, lot L-4471 and expiry 2027-03-31. Scanning it fills in the product, lot and expiry, and you go straight to the quantity.
To set up templates, see GS1 and Custom Barcode Parsing.
Confirming the target LP's location
When you scan an LP or parent LP as the target:
The LP holds stock: its location is shown for information only; you can't change it.
The LP is empty: you're asked to confirm the location it's in, and can change it before the putaway goes ahead.
Example: You scan empty tote T-05 as the target. The app shows its last location, STAGE-2. You're standing at shelf C-03, so you change it to C-03 and confirm.
Auto Remove LP After Transfer
If the target location has Auto Remove LP After Transfer turned on, the stock is stored there without its LP. This applies to Directed LP Putaway and LP (Sequential). See Auto Remove LP After Transfer.
Common questions
Can I put stock somewhere other than the suggested location? Yes, unless Force Suggested Location is on for the putaway algorithm. Your reservation on the suggested location ends as soon as you finish the putaway.
Why can't I see Enable Converting to Units? Your role doesn't have the View Convert to UOM option under ⌠Directed Putaway permission for that option, the product has no unit ratio for that pack type, or you're on Directed LP Putaway, which doesn't offer it.
What happens if I scan the same product twice before finishing? Each product scan reserves space again, so the second suggestion may be split or sent elsewhere. The extra reservation clears itself after a short time.
Can damaged stock be put away? Yes. Choose the damage reason when you scan the product; it's taken into account in the suggestion. See Add Damage Reason during Transfer (Mobile).
