Overview
Feeding levels in Trev are recorded in kgDM/head/day, but that's rarely the figure you have in your head. The feed calculator takes the amount you actually fed out, in bales, buckets or whatever unit suits, and works out what that comes to per head.
Before you start
Set the mob's number of animals first. The calculator divides the total feed by the head count, so an out of date number gives you an out of date answer.
Opening the calculator
Find the mob in Mob Management & Feeding Levels and click the row to expand it.
Click Edit on the Feeding Levels card.
Click the calculator icon to the right of the feed row you're working on.
The calculator icon stays greyed out until that row has a feed type selected.
Working out the amount
Choose the unit you fed in from the Unit dropdown.
Enter how many of those units you fed per day in Number of units per day.
Check the kgDM per unit figure and change it if your feed differs.
Read the result in the green panel.
Click the teal Save Changes button.
Note: Choosing a unit fills in the standard kgDM per unit for that feed. Typing over it affects this calculation only, it doesn't change the unit itself.
What the figures mean
The green panel shows the whole calculation, not just the answer:
Total daily amount: what you entered, in your chosen unit
Total daily kgDM amount: that amount converted to kilograms of dry matter
Number of animals in mob: the head count the calculator is dividing by
Daily amount per head: the figure that goes back into the feeding level
What to expect
Only the per head figure comes back with you. It lands in the Amount box for that feed row and the Total Offered figure at the bottom of the dialog updates. Nothing is saved to the mob until you click Save Changes on the Mob Feeding Levels dialog itself.
Troubleshooting
I picked a feed and got a message saying it has no units set up.
That feed can't be converted, so the calculator won't open for it and the feed type resets. Get in touch with support and we'll get the units sorted for your farm.The calculator icon is greyed out.
Choose a feed type for that row first. The calculator needs to know which feed it's converting before it can offer you units.
