Create and Manage Treatments (Admin Panel)

Learn how to create a new treatment in your Admin Panel, including details, pricing, variations, concerns, and optional pre- and post-care instructions.

Overview

Treatments are the individual services and products patients browse and purchase in your patient app. Building a clear, well-priced treatment catalog is the foundation for packages, memberships, rewards, and promotions.

This article is the starting point for treatment setup. It covers menu upload, AI-assisted drafts, core treatment fields, and publishing. For specialized configuration, use the dedicated articles linked in How It Works and Next Steps.

Control which treatments patients see first

This article is for practice owners, managers, and admins responsible for building or updating the shop experience in the patient app.

Before You Start

  • You must have Marketing, Manager, or Administrator access to create and publish treatments.

  • Open Treatments from the MedCommerce Engine section of the left-side navigation, or start from Catalog → Services if you are uploading a service menu.

  • Decide which locations will offer the treatment.

  • If you plan to add variations or bundled pricing, gather those details before publishing. See the child articles above.

  • Pre- and post-care instructions are optional but help set patient expectations and reduce follow-up questions.

Why It Matters

A well-built treatment catalog helps you:

  • Convert browsers into buyers with clear names, descriptions, and pricing patients understand at a glance.

  • Reduce front-desk friction when in-app prices and service names match what your team quotes in the office.

  • Power downstream features. Packages, memberships, rewards, and promotions all depend on treatments existing in your catalog first.

  • Set expectations early with concern tags, body areas, and optional pre- and post-care instruction cards.

How It Works

Draft vs. Active: New treatments start as Draft until you complete required fields and save. When published, a treatment goes live as Active and is immediately available in the patient app (subject to location settings).

AI menu upload: From Catalog → Services, upload your service menu. The AI scans your files and creates draft treatments pre-filled with name, description, price, concern tags, body area tags, and an image. Review every AI-generated field before publishing.

Core fields: Every treatment requires a name, location availability, unit type, and pricing. Unit type controls how quantities display at checkout (for example, unit, session, syringe, or treatment).

Variations vs. bundled pricing: Use variations when the treatment itself differs (tier, body area, or intensity). Use bundled pricing when it is the same treatment sold in different quantities at different per-unit rates. A treatment or variation uses either individual pricing or bundled pricing, not both. See the dedicated child articles for setup steps.

Pre- and post-care instructions: Optional expectation cards patients can view in Account > Purchase History, Available Treatments, or on the treatment page before purchasing.

Deleted drafts cannot be recovered: Save drafts you are not ready to publish; do not delete them unless you are certain you will not need them.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Upload your service menu (optional AI draft)

  1. Log in to your Admin Dashboard.

  2. Go to Catalog → Services.

  3. Upload your service menu if you have not already.

  4. When the upload completes, open any draft treatment to review AI-generated fields before publishing.

Create or open a treatment

  1. From Catalog → Services, open a draft treatment, or click Treatments in the MedCommerce Engine section of the left-side navigation to create or manage treatments.

  2. Confirm the treatment name matches how your practice refers to the service. This is what patients see in the app.

  3. Set locations where the treatment is available.

  4. Select the unit type (for example, unit, treatment, session, or syringe). This controls how quantities display at checkout.

Set pricing

  1. Verify the price from your menu upload or enter pricing manually.

  2. Set the maximum quantity a patient can purchase in a single transaction.

  3. Choose a pricing method:

    • Individual prices: patients select a quantity (1, 2, 3…) and the price scales accordingly. Best for treatments sold one session at a time.

    • Bundled pricing: you define set bundles for specific quantities. Best when patients commonly buy in sets. See Create bundled pricing for treatments (Admin Panel).

Add images, description, concerns, and body areas

  1. Review the image. Replace the AI-assigned image with your own photo or branded imagery if desired.

  2. Review the description. Edit the AI-generated copy to match your practice’s tone and add details the uploader may have missed.

  3. Review and adjust concerns: the patient issues this treatment addresses (for example, fine lines or hyperpigmentation). Concerns determine when the treatment surfaces in recommendations.

  4. Review and adjust body areas: the face or body areas this treatment targets.

Add optional pre- and post-care instructions

  1. Toggle Pre & Post-Care Instructions to On if you want to add expectation cards.

  2. Click Add Treatment Instruction.

  3. Add an Instruction Name (for example, Skincare Prep or Before Your Appointment).

  4. Add an Instruction Description to guide patients before or after their visit.

  5. Click Save Treatment Instruction after each card.

Add variations (optional)

If your treatment has multiple tiers, body areas, or intensity levels, add variations before publishing. See Create treatment variations (Admin Panel) for the full step-by-step flow.

Publish

When all required fields are complete, save to publish. The treatment goes live as Active and is immediately available in the patient app.

Best Practices and Pro Tips

  • Review every AI-generated field. Menu upload is a starting point, not a final catalog. Verify names, prices, concerns, and descriptions before publishing.

  • Match in-app names to how your team talks. Consistent naming reduces confusion at checkout and the front desk.

  • Use variations for different options, bundles for quantity discounts. Do not mix the two concepts on the same treatment without reading the child articles first.

  • Add pre-care instructions for treatments with prep requirements. Patients who know what to expect before their visit are less likely to no-show or call with last-minute questions.

  • Publish treatments before linking them to memberships or packages. Memberships, packages, rewards, and promotions all require treatments to exist in your catalog first.

Common Mistakes and FAQs

Q: Can I edit a treatment after it is published?

A: Yes. See Edit a treatment (Admin Panel). Changes to active treatments apply immediately for future purchases and do not affect past orders.

Q: Why can I not see the treatment in the app?

A: Check location settings, unit type, and whether you fully completed the pricing section. Confirm the treatment is Active, not Draft or Archived.

Q: Do variations have to share the same unit type?

A: Yes. All variations follow the unit type selected for the master treatment.

Q: Can I add bundled pricing after publishing?

Q: Can I offer both individual pricing and bundled pricing on the same treatment?

A: No. A treatment or variation uses either individual pricing or bundled pricing.

Q: How do I remove a treatment from the app?

A: Archive it. See Archive treatments and packages (Admin Panel). Archiving hides the treatment from new purchases but does not affect past orders.
