Views and Standard Views
Updated over a week ago

Bonterra Software has introduced a new robust infrastructure for building custom reports from the data stored in Bonterra (version 4.9.5.0 and above).

When using Penelope version 4.9.5.0 and above you’ll have access to a new set of Views along with a selection of Standard Views (we will continue to make additional Standard Views available in future releases).

These Views:

  • Require less technical skill and understanding of Penelope’s infrastructure

  • Have simplified, consistent terminology that mirrors the language seen throughout Penelope

  • Include a better update management process

  • Are supported – meaning that the Views will be compatible with future enhancements to Penelope

You can access these new Views through SQL Database Access (e.g. an ODBC connection) and you can continue to use your preferred tool for developing your reports (Microsoft Excel, Tableau, Crystal Reports etc).

If you already have SQL Database Access (ODBC) then no action is required to begin developing new reports with these Views. If you don’t already have SQL Database Access then you can request access by logging a ticket with the Penelope Support Team.

About Views and Standard Views

Views are a representation of data in Penelope (data objects that you would intuitively understand based on knowledge of how Penelope works) with descriptive naming structures.

For example, data about a Public Policy can be found in the funder_public_policy View. Note that aspects of Penelope data related to security or configuration settings are excluded from Views.

Standard Views Join Multiple Views in Logical Meaningful Ways

For example, the Financial Transaction Standard View includes information about the transaction, Individual, and Funder – i.e. std_financial_transaction joins the following Views:

  • Debit_note

  • Invoice

  • Credit

  • Individual

  • Funder

Data Dictionaries

To help you understand the Views available in Penelope we’ve created a series of Data Dictionaries. The Data Dictionaries are organized by Bonterra entity (Individual, Funder, Blue Book etc) and include one tab for each View for the entity type. You can download a copy of each of the Views from the table below:
