This feature is only available with the following products:
One of our most valuable features is the mobile and iPad App. This app's primary purpose is to allow live scoring for players to enter hole-by-hole scores on the golf course and view the live leaderboard. Managers can also use the mobile app to enter pairing group scores and view the live leaderboard.
The mobile app also provides other functionality like:
Viewing event/league portals
Viewing tee sheets
Uploading photos
Round Signups when viewing portals
There are two types of mobile app scoring:
Pairing Group Scoring: This is the standard type of mobile app scoring typically used in the club environment for social rounds of golf. Each pairing group is assigned a Foursome GGID, where one player in the group is responsible for using that GGID to sign into the mobile app and enter scores.
Digital Scorecards: This type of mobile app scoring is used for more organized and competitive events where players are assigned their own Player GGID. After signing in with the GGID, they can act as a marker and enter scores for other players, enter their own marker's notes, and certify scores after the round.
This article will discuss how to use Pairing Group Scoring with the mobile app. If you'd like to learn more about using Digital Scorecards, Click Here instead.
Setting up Events and Leagues for Mobile App Scoring:
In addition to the usual setup steps (e.g., add players, create pairings, create tournaments, set course/tee), you need to do the following to allow for mobile scoring during a round:
Allow Players to Select Course, Tee, and Holes (Optional): If you wish to allow players to select which course, tee, and holes they are playing when logging into the mobile app, you can enable this from the Rounds & Scheduling tab in the event/league profile. To do so go to Event/League > Event/League Profile > Rounds & Scheduing. Select which option(s) you would like to allow players to set (e.g., Course, Tee, Holes) (as shown below).
Enable Mobile Score Entry: This option is found under the Rounds Menu. Players will not be able to sign in to the mobile app until this is enabled. If you have multiple tournaments set up in the round, you will be asked what tournament to use to stroke the mobile app (as shown below).
Note 1: The selected tournament will be used to display Playing Handicaps on the score entry pages.
Note 2: It is also very important to disable mobile score entry as scorecards are turned in, and further finalize the round once all scores are in. For more details, Click Here.Move the Round Status to "In Progress": This option is found under the Rounds Menu. When the round is "In Progress," the leaderboard will go live and update automatically as scores are entered.
Setting for Mobile App Usage with Email and Password Login:
If you are registering golfers to use the mobile app and login with email and password, for example, a league that will allow players to use round signups on the mobile app, you will need to take some additional steps:
Assigning Event/League to Current Season: If you are using seasons and email/password to have golfers login, you will need to ensure the event/league is assigned to the current season. If the event is not assigned to the current season, it will not show in the mobile app for anyone signing in with email/password.
Registering Golfers to an Event or League Portal: When allowing player to sign in to the mobile app with email/password you will need to register them to use the mobile app. For more details about registering golfers to the portal, Click Here.
Best Practices for Mobile App Scoring:
The following options are suggested for mobile app scoring to make your golfer's experience more enjoyable. We have split the option into two categories:
Before the Event: Suggestions to implement before the event.
Game Day: Suggestion to implement on the day of the event.
Before the Event:
Provide Players a way to Download the App: Send your players a link to an article that has direct links to Apple Store and Google Play Store to download the app. For details on these options, Click Here.
Provide Player with instructions on how to use the App: There are several ways to provide your players with instructions on how the use the app (i.e., Video Instruction, Printed, Online, 1 Pager). For details on these options, Click Here.
Tip: Consider adding the instructions on the portal and emailing or texting a link to the portal.
Customize the Mobile App (Optional): You can customize the mobile app with a logo, app color, mobile pages, and mobile banners. For details on customizing your mobile app, Click Here.
Tip: Consider customizing mobile app banners that communicate social distancing policies, takeout menus, online golf shops, and other information.
Game Day:
Print scorecards with the GGID: This option is found on the "Additional Info and Tees" tab when designing scorecards.
Tip: Instead of printing scorecards, consider emailing scorecards.
Tip: If you are not using printed scorecards, you can text or email the Foursome GGID to your players instead. Click Here for instructions.
Provide Player a way to Download the App: Add a QR Code to any mixed media you create, or use our templates in the Report Center with QR Code included, directing your players to an article with both the Apple Store and Google Play Store links. For details on these options, Click Here.
Provide players with instructions on using the App: Add a QR Code to any mixed media you create directing your players to a short video on using the App. For details on this options, Click Here.
Downloading the Mobile App:
We highly suggest that you encourage players to download the mobile app onto their phones before the day of the round. You can notify your players via email, club website, event portal, or even display a notice in the golf shop. If most of your players have the mobile app downloaded before the round date, you will not be scrambling to help players download the mobile app right before the event starts.
Players can search in the app store for the free app by entering "Golf Genius" or provide them the following links be email where they click on the appropriate link:

Signing into the Mobile App:
There are three types of individuals you may want to allow to log into the mobile app:
Players
Managers
Spectators
Below, we outline the available options for each.
Players:
There are two ways for a player to sign in to the mobile app:
Pairing Group GGID: Each pairing group is assigned a unique GGID. This GGID can be added to their printed scorecard or found on the Pro Tip Sheet in the Download/Print Center. When entering this GGID, they will only be able to enter scores for their pairing group.
Email and Password: Players registered to our system can enter their email and password instead of a GGID. They will see a list of all the events and leagues they have access to when doing so.
Signing in with a GGID is the simplest and easiest method. We encourage you to use that option, especially if most of your players are not registered to our system.
Managers:
Managers can also sign into the mobile app using:
Email and Password: When using these credentials, managers can access all of their leagues and events and enter scores for any pairing groups where mobile score entry is enabled.
Round GGID: When using these credentials (Found in Rounds > Round Profile > General Settings), Managers can enter scores for all the pairing groups in the round.
Event/League GGID: When using these credentials (Found in Golfers > Event/League Profile > General Settings), Managers can view the leaderboard but not enter scores.
Spectators:
Spectators and other non-players can also sign into the mobile app with an Event/League GGID to view the leaderboard but not enter scores.
Using the Mobile App:
When opening the app, sign in with your email/password or GGID.
If signing in using the GGID, click on your name to confirm who you are.
If you have enabled the option to allow players to select course, tee, and holes, they can do that from this screen.
You will then be directed to the score entry page for their pairing group.
If signing in with an email/password instead, you are brought to the app home page where you will have various options to choose from: Enter Scores, Leaderboard, Upload Photo, Scorecards, Tee Sheets, Member Portal, and Round Settings (only available to managers).
1. Enter Scores: This is where you will go to enter hole-by-hole scores.
Enter each team or player's score, then click "Save Scores." You will then be directed to the next hole. You can also clear scores for a hole and undo any changes that you've made. If a player or team does not finish a hole, click "X" or click "X" + the most likely score if they did finish (e.g., X7 will count as 7 strokes for score posting purposes). Click Here for more details on score entry for unfinished holes.
2. End of Round Summary and Confirmation: After completing the round, all scores entered, you will be asked if you would like to proceed to the End of Round Summary page. Once taken to the End of Round Summary page, you can review and updated (if needed) the full scorecard and results for all players in the group.
3. Leaderboards:
The leaderboard and be accessed from the score entry page or the home page on the mobile app.
As scores are being entered, you can view the live leaderboard for all the tournaments set up within that round.
4. Upload Photos:
You can instantly upload photos from the mobile app to a photo gallery, which can then be displayed on the event or league portal.
You can upload a photo that is already on your camera roll or take a photo right away. Tap on the camera icon and select to load a photo from the gallery (your phone's photo album) or take a pic on your phone's camera right away.
5. Scorecards:
View the hole-by-hole scores for each pairing group with a nice summary view.
You can navigate to different pairing groups by clicking on their pairing group number at the bottom. Swipe right or left to navigate back and forth from the front 9 and back 9.
Note: If mobile scoring has been disabled, the scorecards option will not be available.
6. Tee Sheets: You can view the tee sheet sorted by pairing group or individual (alpha).
7. Member Portal:
You can access and view the event or league portal. As discussed in the Member Portal article, the portal is divided into sections, and within those sections are pages.
When you click on the portal, you will see all the sections that are in the portal. Click on one of the sections to view all the pages within that section (For information on all the pages you can add to the portal, Click Here). For instance, let's click on the "Social & Registration" Section.
Within that section, there are a variety of pages that can be accessed by clicking on them.
Round Settings and Fire TV (Managers Only):
These settings can only be accessed when signing into the mobile app as a Manager. There are three types of settings:
Mobile Score Entry: This option allows you to enable or disable mobile score entry. When disabled, players will not be able to enter or edit their scores from the mobile app.
Tournaments in Progress: For your players to get live updates on the leaderboard, you will need to toggle "In Progress" ON. The leaderboard will continuously score throughout the round and be formatted for In Progress play (e.g., Thru column). Turning this to OFF will move the round to completed status and will not update.
Show Pairings in Member Portal: Toggle the option to display or hide the pairings on the mobile app and portal.
Amazon Fire TV: If you use an Amazon Fire TV Stick device to connect round leaderboards to a TV, this option will allow you to connect round leaderboards to a Fire TV Stick device. Click Here for more details.
Scoring Stations:
Sometimes the mobile app is used to enter scores, but not by the players. Some events may have scoring stations where scorers or volunteers are responsible for collecting and entering scores on the mobile app as players come to their scoring stations. With our Scoring Stations feature, this can easily be set up. For details, Click Here.
The iPad app:
The only difference between the phone apps and the iPad app is score entry. When you click on "Scoring" on the iPad app, you will see a page that looks like what you see on the Manager Site.
A manager can enter scores for all the pairing groups by clicking on their names, which will expand their scorecard. Scores can then be saved by clicking "Save Scores" on the top right. The iPad app is typically only used by non-players who are responsible for entering scores.
