What does uploading a contact list do?
Uploading a contact list adds many contacts to your Updox Address Book at once, so you don't have to enter them one by one.
Step 1: Open File Upload
In the left-hand menu, click Inbox.
Click Tools in the top right.
Click File Upload (.csv).
Step 2: Choose the contact upload type
In the first dropdown, choose Updox Standard Maps.
In the second dropdown, choose Contacts.
Step 3: Download the template and add your contacts
Click Download Template. The template .csv file opens in a new tab.
Enter your contacts in the template, one contact per row.
Save the file as a .csv file.
Important: Keep the template format exactly as it is. Don't add, remove, or reorder columns. See "What goes in each column?" below.
Step 4: Upload your file
Make sure Updox Standard Maps and Contacts are still selected in the two dropdowns.
Click Choose File and select your .csv file.
Important: Make sure that ‘Updox Standard Maps’ and ‘Contacts’ are still selected in the two previous dropdown fields.
Step 5: Check that your file processed
Your file first shows under Unprocessed Files.
When processing is finished, it moves to Processed Files automatically.
What goes in each column?
Column | What to enter |
Patient ID | A unique ID you choose for each contact. It's labeled Patient ID, but you can use it for any contact. It lets you update the same contacts later by uploading a new list. |
Fax number | A 10-digit fax number. Don't include a 1 at the beginning. |
Zip code | Use the same format as the sample in the template. |
EHR Account ID | Usually not needed. Leave it blank. |
EHR Contact Location ID | Usually not needed. Leave it blank. |
DOB | Usually not needed for contacts. Leave it blank. |
Why did my contact list upload fail?
Check these common problems:
Wrong column order. Columns must be in exactly the same order as the template.
Zip code format. Zip codes must match the format in the template sample.
Fax numbers with a 1 at the start. Fax numbers must be exactly 10 digits. Remove any leading 1.
Wrong file type. Save your file as a .csv, not an Excel (.xlsx) file.
Wrong dropdowns. Make sure Updox Standard Maps and Contacts are selected before you upload.
Can I update contacts I already uploaded?
Yes. Use the same Patient ID for each contact in your new list, then upload it again.
