This page is for practices that use Updox with Elation Health. Work through it in order. Skip any product your practice doesn’t have.
Connect Updox to Elation
Updox shares patients, appointment calendars, and locations with Elation.
After you buy Updox, our Onboarding team (onboarding@updox.com) emails an integration request to you and Elation.
Reply All to approve the integration. Elation then sends the connection details.
This can take up to a week.
Document types sync every morning, so changes you make in Elation show in Updox the next day.
Signing in
Sign in after your admin creates your Updox user account.
Virtual printer: sign in with your Updox username and password or your practice’s Integration Key (Menu > Admin > Practice Information).
Patients and contacts
Patients sync automatically from Elation.
Contacts don’t sync yet. Add them in the Address Book or upload a contact list.
Sending documents to Elation
Before you start (admins):
Set each user’s EHR User ID (Menu > Admin > Users > Settings).
Make sure your practice time zone matches Elation (Menu > Admin > Practice Settings).
When you send:
Document Name: defaults to the document type if left blank.
Document Type: your Report Types from Elation. Defaults to Misc.
Provider: your active physicians. Admins can set a default provider for each user.
Date of Item: defaults to today.
Notes: appear only on the metadata page.
Files appear in Elation under the patient’s Reports, filed by report type.
Faxing tip
Elation has its own single-line fax. You can use it alongside Updox Fax, which supports multiple fax lines.
Reminders tips (admins)
Updox uses Elation’s Spanish language setting for Spanish reminder scripts.
Appointment types show by reason (In Person or Video).
Appointment status updates and confirmations show in Elation.
Patients can cancel from a reminder if your admin turns that on in Reminders.
Calendar names come from Elation (user’s full name and location name).
Updox can mask the phone number that reminder calls come from.
You can set a patient’s reminder preference in the Updox Address Book.
Broadcast tips
You can upload a patient report from Elation Reporting as a CSV to build a broadcast list.
Elation patient ID = Updox chart number.
Only active patients are added.
Sex and DOB are required.
Uploading doesn’t change patient details in Updox.

Good to know
Virtual printing works only on Windows and Mac.
Users don’t appear in Queues until they sign in to Updox for the first time.
Fax files can be up to 128 MB. A 400-page fax is usually about 40 MB.
Secure Text attachments can be up to 50 MB.
New SMS text numbers need carrier approval, which can take up to a week. You can use Secure Text in the meantime.
SMS templates must be under 140 characters.
Updox Email isn’t a HIPAA-compliant way to communicate.
