If an event is suspended or abandoned, will the bet be cancelled?

This article clearly explains whether a bet will be cancelled if an event is suspended or abandoned, the circumstances under which a bet may be considered Void, and how this can affect the outcome of the bet.

A sporting event may be suspended, abandoned, or temporarily stopped for various reasons. In such situations, the settlement of bets depends on whether the event is resumed within the applicable time limit and the specific rules governing the relevant market.

The following explains how bets are generally handled in these circumstances.

What Happens If an Event Is Not Resumed Within 48 Hours?

If an event is suspended, abandoned, or postponed and fails to resume within 48 hours from the official kick-off/start time, the relevant event will generally be considered Void, and bets placed on that event will be cancelled.

However, if the applicable Rules and Regulations specify a different settlement method for a particular market, that market will be settled according to those rules.

Can Some Markets Be Settled Instead of Being Voided?

Not all markets are necessarily treated in the same way.

Certain markets may already have an unconditionally determined outcome before an event is suspended or abandoned. In such cases, the relevant market may be settled according to the confirmed outcome rather than being voided.

For example, if the outcome of a particular market has already been conclusively determined before the event is stopped and no further part of the event can affect that outcome, the market may be settled according to the applicable rules.

For details on how a specific market is settled, please refer to the relevant Rules and Regulations.

Who Decides Whether a Bet Is Voided?

When determining whether an event or bet should be cancelled or declared Void, the Company's decision is final.

Relevant information from the event, the event referee, the applicable governing body, or other relevant authorities may be considered when making such a decision.

However, even where an event referee or relevant governing authority has issued a decision, the Company's final decision regarding bet settlement will be made in accordance with the applicable Rules and Regulations.

What Happens to a Parlay Bet?

The treatment of a Parlay Bet may differ when one of its selections is suspended, abandoned, or declared Void.

If one selection within a Parlay Bet is declared Void, the entire Parlay Bet will generally remain valid. Instead, the Void selection will be treated as having odds of 1.00 for settlement purposes.

This means that the remaining valid selections can continue to form part of the Parlay Bet, provided they remain valid under the applicable rules.

Example

Suppose a Parlay Bet contains three selections:

  • Selection A — Odds 1.80

  • Selection B — Odds 2.00

  • Selection C — Odds 1.70

If the event related to Selection B is later declared Void, Selection B will be calculated at 1.00 odds.

The effective Parlay odds would therefore be:

1.80 × 1.00 × 1.70

In this case, the entire Parlay Bet is not cancelled simply because one selection is Void. Instead, the Void selection is calculated at 1.00, while the remaining valid selections are used to determine the Parlay settlement.

Important Information

The outcome of a bet when an event is suspended, abandoned, or not resumed may vary depending on several factors, including:

  • The reason why the event was suspended or abandoned;

  • The amount of time that has passed since the official kick-off/start time;

  • Whether the event resumes within the applicable time limit;

  • Whether the outcome of the relevant market has already been unconditionally determined;

  • The specific Rules and Regulations applicable to the market;

  • The status of an individual selection if the bet is a Parlay.

Therefore, when an event is suspended, abandoned, or postponed, it is important to review the applicable Rules and Regulations to understand how the relevant bet or market will be settled.
