How do I turn a specific day’s route into that day’s new Master Sequence?

This article walks through the process of “promoting” a given day’s route (what stops actually happened and in what order) to be that route’s new Master Sequence.

When drivers run routes, the order they actually complete stops can differ from the Master Sequence you originally set up. By “promoting” a day’s sequence, you can take the real-world order of a couple day’s route and make it your route’s new Master Sequence so that every future run starts from the order that actually worked.

This is especially helpful early on in your partnership with Hauler Hero, where otherwise it could take weeks to get a route running efficiently.

Before You Start

  • Remember that all changes you make to your Master Sequence are revertible; if something doesn’t look right, you can undo your changes by restoring back to your Master Sequence’s previous version.

How do I promote a complete day’s route to become my new master route?

First, open Master Sequence and select the route you want to work with.

Navigate to the specific day whose sequence you want to promote. You can click the left and right arrows (where you see “Current + Upcoming”) to navigate across past days to two months out. In the example below, we’ll be using August 3rd’s route.

Click the “Promote” button.

You’ll then see the following dialog.

  • Consolidate - Keeps every stop in the daily route you selected in the order they were in. The stops that only exist in the current Master will stay; Smart Neighbors will automatically slot those stops near their nearest neighbors.

  • Replace Master - Completely replaces this day’s route with the route you selected; your Master will become exactly this day’s stops and order. Stops only on the current Master will be dropped.

Once you’ve made a selection, click Preview Changes.

You’ll then see a map with the day you selected on the left and the proposed new Master route on the right.

Stops that were kept and potentially reordered will be highlighted in yellow; stops that will not carry over will be highlighted in grey.

If all looks good, in the top right, you’ll have 3 options:

  • Option A: Apply to master - To publish this iteration of the route as its new Master route

  • Option B: Apply to master + 9 days, Update master now - To review how the order will cascade to the route’s 9 upcoming days

  • Option C: Apply to master + 9 days, Update master + 9 days now - To skip the review and publish the new order.

Depending on what selection you picked, you’ll either have finished promoting your daily route to Master, or you’ll be reviewing your changes once more before finalizing them. Pictured below, option B:

Remember that all changes you make to your Master Sequence are revertible; if something doesn’t look right after publishing, you can undo your changes by restoring back to your Master Sequence’s previous version.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I promote a day that hasn’t yet finished?

  • No; sorting by completion time and promoting both require that day to have been completed.

What if I don’t like the result?

  • You can restore the previous sequence at any time; nothing is permanent.

Does this use my driver’s exact run order?

  • Yes, if you sort by completion timestamp before completing. Otherwise, it’ll use your Master Sequence’s selected sort.
