Devices Menu (Instruments)

This guide explains how to browse, search, filter, and locate telemetry devices and sensors on the map using the Devices Menu.

Written by Ken Panitz

Overview

The Devices Menu (listed as "Devices" or "Instruments") is your central control panel for managing sensors and telemetry nodes deployed across your project. In this panel, you can search for specific units, filter by device type or visibility status, zoom directly to physical sensor locations, and toggle individual device visibilities.

To open the Devices Menu:

Click the Devices (measuring instrument/dial icon) in the left Work Panel.

Device State Bar

Floating at the top of the 3D canvas viewport, the Device State Bar provides real-time counts and toggles for device status:

  1. Active: Displays count of active devices transmitting live telemetry. Click to toggle active device visibility.

  2. Filtered: Displays count of devices matching active Event Filters. Filtered devices render with a dedicated filter icon on map labels.

  3. Inactive Controls: Displays count of offline or inactive devices. Inactive devices render with dithered or semi-transparent labels showing their last known location. Configure inactivity threshold dropdowns (5 Minutes, 15 Minutes, 1 Hour, or Workspan Inactive to evaluate activity based on workspan intervals).

  4. Movement Path Controls: Configure movement path overlays for selected timeframes (That Hour, That Day, or custom timeline window).

Devices Interface Layout

The Devices panel is divided into four main sections:

  1. Search Bar: Search devices using text fields like device name, type, site name, model, or notes.

  2. Filter & Sort Toolbar: Narrow down the list by device types, and sort by name or device type.

  3. Show All button: Appears at the top right of the list if any devices are hidden, letting you restore all hidden devices with a single click.

  4. Device List: Displays individual cards for each device containing its metadata.

Searching and Filtering Devices

1. Searching

Type into the search bar at the top of the panel to instantly filter the list. The search scans:

  • Device Name

  • Device Type

  • Site Name / Location

  • Manufacturer / Model

  • Plant, Registration, or Reference numbers

  • Custom notes and remarks

2. Filtering

Click the Device Type dropdown to filter the list by specific active types on your project (e.g., Inclinometer, Tiltmeter, Piezometer, GPS Tracker, etc.).

3. Sorting

Click the Sort dropdown to order the device list:

  • Name: Sort alphabetically by device name.

  • Device Type: Group and sort alphabetically by device type.

Map Interactions

You can interact with devices in the list to update their status on the main 3D map canvas:

Toggle Individual Visibility (Eye Icon)

Each device in the list has an eye icon on the right side of its card:

  • Open Eye (Solid): Device is visible on the 3D map. Click it to hide the device.

  • Closed Eye (Dimmed): Device is hidden from the 3D map. Click it to restore visibility.

Locate and Focus (Double-Click)

  • Double-click a device card in the list to trigger the map camera to fly directly to and center on that device's current 3D coordinates (latitude, longitude, and elevation).

Selecting Devices (Single-Click)

  • Single-click a device card to select it. The selected device will be highlighted on the map.

  • Multi-Select: Hold Ctrl while clicking to select multiple devices.

  • Selection Inspector: Selecting devices automatically opens the Selection Inspector on the right side of the screen with detailed metadata, current datum status, and real-time telemetry charts.

Selecting a device, adds information about that device to the selection inspector. Here you can see this crane has operated for 4 periods on the 5th August, with a total run time of 1:58hr. The crane has not moved in that time, but been operating from a stationary position.
