View States

This guide explains how to save, edit, share, and apply 3D scene viewpoints, layer configurations, and camera coordinates in the 4D Viewer.

Written by Ken Panitz

Overview

A View State is a saved snapshot of the 4D Viewer's current setup. It captures:

  • The 3D camera position (coordinates, heading direction, and tilt angle).

  • Visible/hidden BIM model elements.

  • Active GIS layer and terrain settings.

  • Active event filters and device states.

Instead of manually navigating the map, toggling layers, and reapplying filters every time you open the viewer, you can apply a View State to instantly restore a specific scene configuration.

To open the View States Panel:

  • Click the View States (binoculars icon) in the left Work Panel.

Panel Interface Layout

Each View State row displays:

  • Name: The description of the view state.

  • Badges: Indicates if it is configured as the Project Default starting view.

  • Details: Lists tags like "Shared with team", "Unsaved", "Unsaved changes", or "From [Project Name]".

  • Apply All button: Applies the captured settings to the active 3D viewport.

Creating and Saving View States

1. Create a Draft

  1. Navigate the 3D map to the viewpoint you want to save. Turn on/off any BIM elements or GIS layers.

  2. Click the + Create View State button in the View States panel.

  3. A draft view state (marked as "Unsaved") will be created.

2. Configure in Selection Inspector

  1. Click the newly created view state card. This highlights it and opens the Selection Inspector on the right side of the screen.

  2. In the Selection Inspector:

    • Rename: Enter a descriptive name for your view state.

    • Capture Options: Check which settings to save:

      • Camera Position: Saves latitude, longitude, height, and angle.

      • Date Range: The range of data loaded into Tobe Twin

      • Dynamic Date Range

      • Static Date Range

      • Device Data: What devices are being loaded into the scene.

      • Associated Filters: Save filters into the view state so they can be shared with others. Also set if the filter is turned on/off by default.

      • Tobe Project:

      • BIM Visibility: Saves which parts of the 3D models are shown or hidden

      • GIS Layers: Saves your active GIS overlays and opacities.

      • GIS State: Set state of GIS global settings.

      • Visibility State: show/hide for models, paths, labels ect.

    • Project Default:

      • Make Project Default: (Administrator only) Sets this as the default starting viewpoint for all team members opening the project.

    • Sharing: Toggle Shared to make this view state visible to your entire project team.

    • Capture Current: Click this button to overwrite the view state snapshot with your current camera view and settings.

    • Save / Delete: Save the settings or permanently delete the state.

Applying View States

To apply a saved state:

  • Scroll to the view state card in the list and click Apply All.

  • The 3D camera will fly to the saved coordinates and orientation.

  • The layers, BIM visibility, and filters will automatically sync to match the saved snapshot.
