Why is the App Store still trying to charge me after I cancelled?

Written by Anastasia

This usually happens when a subscription is cancelled less than 24 hours before the renewal date, or after it. Under App Store rules, a subscription renews automatically 24 hours before the end of the trial or paid period, so by the time you cancelled, Apple had already created the payment for the next period. If the payment didn’t go through, Apple keeps trying to collect it, and the unpaid amount may appear in your Apple ID.

We can’t stop these attempts: App Store subscriptions and payments are managed only by Apple.

What you can do:

  1. Check that the subscription is cancelled: open https://subscriptions.instories.com/ and tap Instories. If you see an end date, auto-renewal is off and there will be no new renewals.

  2. Let the pending payment go through (make sure there are enough funds on your card or balance), then request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple usually reviews requests within 48 hours.

  3. If you’d rather not pay, contact Apple Support and ask about the pending charge — see How to Request a Refund on iOS (App Store) for refund details.

👉 Please Note: The decision about a refund is made only by Apple, and we can’t influence it.

The charge isn’t from Apple?

If your bank statement shows “Instories” rather than APPLE.COM/BILL, the subscription was bought on our website. In this case, we can stop the charges ourselves — message us in the chat with the email used at checkout and the last 4 digits of the card.
