Why was I charged right away instead of getting a free trial?

Written by Anastasia

If you were charged as soon as you subscribed, the free trial wasn’t applied to this purchase. The most common reasons:

  • The free trial was already used. The App Store and Google Play give the Instories free trial only once per Apple ID or Google account, even if you tried it long ago or on another device.

  • The plan doesn’t include a trial. The 3-day free trial is available only with the annual plan. The monthly plan and the Ultra plan don’t include a trial, so the payment is taken right away.

  • The free trial switch was off. On some payment screens (for example, on the Max plan) the trial is turned on with a separate switch — Not sure yet? Start a free trial. If it’s off, the subscription is purchased immediately.

  • You chose a special offer. Discounted and promotional offers, including offers from ads, may not include a free trial.

Will cancelling give my money back?

No. Cancelling only turns off auto-renewal, so you won’t be charged again. Access stays active until the end of the paid period. A refund is a separate request to the store.

How to request a refund (App Store):

  1. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple ID you used for the purchase.

  2. Choose Request a refund.

  3. Select a reason (for example, that you expected a free trial) and choose the Instories subscription.

  4. Submit the request.

For Google Play, follow the steps in How to Request a Refund on Android (Google Play). The final refund decision is made by Apple or Google, not by Instories.

👉 Please Note: If your bank statement shows “Instories” rather than Apple or Google, the subscription was bought on our website — message us in the chat.

Not sure which plan you bought? Send us a screenshot of Settings → your name → Subscriptions in the chat, and we’ll check it for you.
