What are the admin roles in Jolly and what can each one do?

A breakdown of Jolly's default admin roles (Owner, Manager, Finance, Recruiter, Staff), what each can access, and how custom roles work.

For: Owners

Every admin in Jolly is assigned a role, and that role controls which tabs they can see and what they can do in each one. Roles are managed from Settings -> Roles & Permissions.

The three access levels

Each role sets one of three access levels for every tab:

  • Read & Write - can view the tab and take actions (create, edit, delete)

  • Read Only - can view the tab and its contents, but cannot make changes

  • No Access - the tab is hidden entirely

The five default roles

Jolly ships with five default roles. They're presets, so they can't be deleted, but they're a starting point for building custom roles (see below).

  • Owner - full Read & Write access everywhere, including Wallet, Billing, Integrations, Security, and Roles & Permissions. Only Owners can create, edit, or delete roles and assign roles to other admins.

  • Manager - Read & Write access to Contacts, Send, Campaigns, Referrals, Attachments, Items, and Chatter. Read Only on Home, Intelligence, and most Settings tabs. No access to Wallet, Billing, Integrations, or Security.

  • Finance - Read & Write access to Home, Wallet, and Billing. Read Only on Contacts, Campaigns, and Chatter. No access to Send, Referrals, Attachments, Items, Intelligence, or the other Settings tabs.

  • Recruiter - Read & Write access to Send and Referrals. Read Only on Home, Contacts, Campaigns, and Chatter. No access to Wallet, Attachments, Items, Intelligence, or Settings.

  • Staff - Read & Write access to Send only. Read Only on Home, Contacts, Campaigns, and Chatter. No access to Wallet, Referrals, Attachments, Items, Intelligence, or Settings.

Creating a custom role

  1. Go to Settings -> Roles & Permissions

  2. Click + Create role

  3. Enter a Role Name and optional description

  4. Optionally choose a default role as a preset to auto-fill permissions, then adjust individual tabs

  5. Click Create role

A custom role can't be made more permissive than the admin creating it - any permission level above your own access is grayed out and can't be selected.

Editing or deleting a custom role

  • Select the custom role in the sidebar and click the pencil icon to edit its name, description, or permissions

  • Click Delete Role inside the edit modal to remove it. Deleting a role automatically reassigns any admins who had it to Staff

Assigning a role to an admin

Only Owners can assign or change an admin's role, from Settings -> Admins. See How do I add or remove an admin user to my account? for the exact steps.
