This article will give you a short list of things you need to check when using Tags in your MV account.

The goal is to help you use Tags to organize your members and send them relevant content.

NOTE: In order to use our "Add a Tag" action in MemberVault, you'll need to be using one of the email service providers we directly integrate with. If you don't see your email service on this list, you can still use tags but this will be managed all within your email service as well as a third party tool like Zapier or Pabbly.

Tags are added using our Actions feature, and will only appear in the dropdown menu for actions when using an email service we directly integrate with, such as Kit, MailerLite or ActiveCampaign.

  1. Determine where you're adding this tag. There are two places to add actions in your MemberVault account:

    1. Each Product and Offer has an Actions section near the bottom of the edit page (best for adding product specific tags)

    2. Under "Members" > "Actions" (best for adding email consent tags and any overall member engagement tags)

  2. Create the tag in MemberVault you'd like to use. You do not need to create this in your email service first! Our system will automatically send that tag over to your email service the first time the action fires.

Here's a quick checklist of best practice tags to add to your products. Not all of these may apply to your situation, so pick the ones that are the best fit for you:

  • Have one tag that includes the name of the product that gets applied to everyone who has access to the product.

  • If you'd like to keep track of people getting added to the product via a payment option vs manually vs a webhook, you can create individual tags for this as well.

  • If you offer multiple payment options, add a tag to show which payment option your member selected at checkout.

  • Add a tag that shows when a member becomes a Hot Lead for a product they don't yet own.

  • If your product has a recurring payment option, add tags to show pending cancellations or when a member's subscription has fully cancelled (our click-to-cancel feature makes this easy to automate).

Here are some best practice tips for tags to add in the members section:

  • Tag members who have given consent to be added to your email list

  • Tag members who have not given consent to be added to your email list

  • If you offer a reward (ie a free product or a discount code) when a member reaches a certain level of engagement on your MemberVault site, add a tag when they reach X number of EP

As far as formatting your tags, we recommend keeping this clear so that you as the admin can easily locate and identify which tag applies to which product.

As an example, instead of tagging someone with "Yay!" when they reach 50EP in your MemberVault site, use a tag like "Reached 50 EP" instead!
