Understanding account inactivity, IBAN archiving and the monthly IBAN fee

What happens to your IBANs, your funds, and your account

Why do IBANs get archived?

From 30 September 2026, each GBP, EUR, and USD wire IBAN on the Standard plan costs $0.99 per month to keep open. If the monthly fee cannot be collected — for example, because the balance is too low — the IBAN is archived automatically.

IBANs may also be archived due to a period of inactivity, or at the account holder's request.

✅ Who is excluded from these fees

The following users are not charged the $5.99 activation fee or the $0.99 monthly fee:

  • GCC residents— for their USD account

  • EU residents— for their EUR account

  • UK residents— for their GBP account

  • Prior activation fee payers ($5.99 or $1.99)— per IBAN: the activation fee exempts you from the $0.99 monthly fee for that specific IBAN only. If you open a different IBAN currency, the $5.99 activation and $0.99/month apply to that new IBAN

  • nsave Pro subscribers— included in your subscription

ℹ️ Archiving is an administrative status change only. It does not mean your account or funds are closed, frozen, or lost. It only affects whether those specific bank details can be used to send or receive transfers.

What happens when an IBAN is archived?

  • The IBAN number can no longer be used to send or receive transfers

  • Payments sent to an archived IBAN are returned to the sender — they do not arrive in your account. If you're expecting salary payments, invoices, or any standing order, update the sender with new details before your IBAN is archived

  • Your nsave account remains fully open

  • Your funds remain safely held and are not affected in any way

What happens to different currency accounts?

Unused or empty currency accounts

Currency accounts with no balance and no transaction history may have their IBANs archived after a period of inactivity. This is an administrative action only and has no financial impact. To use that currency again, a new IBAN can be requested in the app ($5.99 on Standard, free on Pro — then $0.99/month).

Currency accounts holding funds

Accounts holding funds remain fully secure. If an IBAN is archived, the funds stay safely held and are not affected. You'll need a new IBAN to receive further transfers.

Example

A customer holds funds in a USD Account as savings while having an empty GBP account. The GBP IBAN may be archived because the $0.99 monthly fee isn't worth paying on an empty account. The USD funds remain fully safe throughout.

Will my main account still exist?

Yes. Your main nsave account remains active at all times, even if individual IBANs are archived. You keep full ownership of your funds, can log in as usual, and can request new IBAN details when you need them.

Are there any risks to my saved funds?

No.

  • ❌ Funds will not be frozen

  • ❌ Funds will not be lost

  • ❌ Funds will not be deducted or affected in any way

  • ✅ Your savings remain securely held and fully yours

What about keeping my USD Account inactive?

Your USD Account (ACH details — routing and account number) has no monthly fee and is not affected by inactivity.

If you also hold a USD wire IBAN (a separate product), the $0.99 monthly fee applies to that on Standard, unless you previously paid an activation fee. If you're not using it, the simplest option is to let it archive — your USD Account and ACH details are unaffected.
