Setting up UTM tracking for Meta ads

How to add UTM tracking parameters to your Meta ads published through Cuttable

Written by Libby

What are UTM parameters

UTM parameters are tracking codes added to your ad URLs. When a customer clicks your ad, these codes tell your analytics tools where the click came from, which campaign it was part of, and what type of ad was shown.

Cuttable allows you to set up UTM parameters at the account level so they are automatically applied to every Meta ad you publish. You do not need to manually add tracking information to each ad.

How to set up UTM tracking

To add UTM parameters to your Meta ads in Cuttable:

  1. Go to Settings in your Cuttable account.

  2. Navigate to Meta → Manage

  3. Select Templates

  4. Enter your UTM parameter values in the tracking fields provided.

  5. Save Changes.

Once saved, these parameters will be automatically applied to all Meta ads published from your account going forward.

Important: UTM tracking only applies to ads created after your tracking settings have been saved. Ads that were published before setup will not be updated.

What does “Prefill with Cuttable’s suggest values” mean

Cuttable pre-fills UTM fields using account and campaign IDs. ID-based values are used rather than name-based values to protect the privacy of your account information.

You can edit these pre-filled values before saving if you need to use custom tracking parameters.

Using custom UTM parameters

If your business uses a third-party analytics or ad tracking platform, that platform may require specific UTM parameter values to correctly attribute your ad traffic.

For example, if your analytics platform expects a specific campaign source, medium, or content tag to be set in a certain way, you can enter those exact values manually in the UTM fields instead of using Cuttable's suggested values.

To use custom UTM parameters:

  1. Follow the setup steps above to open your UTM tracking settings.

  2. Clear the pre-filled values in any field you want to customize.

  3. Enter the exact parameter values your analytics platform requires.

  4. Save your settings.

All Meta ads published through Cuttable after saving will include your custom UTM values.

Not sure what values to enter? Check the tracking or attribution settings in your analytics platform, or contact your platform's support team for the exact UTM format they require.

What happens next

After setup, every Meta ad published through Cuttable will include your UTM parameters in the destination URL. You can verify this by checking the URL attached to a published ad in your Meta Ads Manager.
