Creative is your lever

Targeting is automated now. On Meta, creative is the only lever left, and volume plus diversity is how you pull it.

The brands that win on Meta don't run better ads. They run more. Here's why creative is the biggest lever you have, and how to pull it in your first weeks on Cuttable.

The game changed

Targeting used to be where you won or lost. Not any more. Meta's 2025 "Andromeda" engine evaluates thousands of times more ads in parallel and decides who sees what. You no longer beat the algorithm with smarter targeting. You feed it with more varied creative.

The data backs it up. Nielsen finds that 49% of advertising-driven sales lift comes from the creative itself, the single biggest factor, and for digital campaigns creative drives 56% of sales. Creative isn't one input among many. It's the input.

Lever 1: Volume

You can't pick the winner. You have to find it. Winning ads are discovered, not planned, and only about 1 in 11 ads becomes a winner on Meta (one that returns over 10x ROAS). Most ads are fine. Some are great at 3 to 5x. A few are outrageous. Creative volume is how you buy lottery tickets that actually pay out.

The more distinct creatives you give Meta, the more pockets of audience it unlocks, and the faster a breakout surfaces. Meta's own best practice is 10 to 20 unique creative concepts per campaign. The numbers on getting there are stark:

  • 39x more likely to find a winning ad when you publish 20 or more unique ads.

  • 2% chance of finding a winning ad when you publish fewer than five.

💡 Stop fishing with one rod. Start fishing with many.

Lever 2: Diversity

Volume of the same ad teaches the algorithm nothing. Diversity does. Different hooks, different formats, different angles. Each distinct concept is a new door for Meta to match the right message to the right person, which is exactly what Andromeda rewards.

An ad set built with around 20 diverse creatives saw +17% conversions and 16% lower cost per result versus a low-creative structure. And advertisers who let Meta mix and match diverse assets through Advantage+ Creative saw +22% ROAS on its own.

💡 Aim for distinct concepts, not small tweaks of the same ad. Angles, not variations.

The winners were hiding in the volume

Brand A launched 202 ads in a single month through Cuttable. $12k of spend returned $100k in tracked revenue, an 8.4x blended return across the whole set. The standouts hit 22 to 26x. The breakout ads weren't the obvious ones. They surfaced because the volume existed to find them.

Brand B launched 48 new creatives in one sprint: A$7.1k of spend returned roughly A$73k, a 10.3x blended return. Like Brand A, it was carried by a few high performers at 13.6x and 17.6x ROAS.

Cuttable-published ads only. Meta-attributed purchase value.

Why 20

20 ads is where the momentum kicks in. Across our 250+ customers, the brands that publish more than 20 ads in their first weeks don't just do better in that window. They behave like a different company afterwards. The first 20 isn't a vanity number. It's the on-ramp to finding your winners and changing the way you create and drive performance.

  • 48% of brands publishing 20 or more ads land profitable ads in their first 14 days.

  • +37% account ROAS for brands running 3 or more ad types (creative diversity in action).

  • 4.4x blended ROAS on Cuttable ads, across 250 brands and $30M of Meta spend.

What to do in your first 14 days

Start a new campaign and ad set. Publish your first 20. Feed the algorithm a diverse set, let the data pick the breakout, then scale your winners.
