A voter list may be exported into a spreadsheet with fields that can be sorted for a door-to-door walking list. Address fields are separated to sort by street name and house number, and other options are available for sorting by USPS Mailing Codes, Neighborhood ID, and Registered Address ID.
Step 1: Create a Voter List
Use the Basic Counts or Advanced Counts data tools to filter records for targeting specific voters for your contact projects.
Using Moved and Deceased filters
Your voter list can be set up to exclude records which were marked Has Moved or Is Deceased to reduce incorrect contact information.
Has Moved: records are identified as "Moved" through user updates and when the voter's registered address contains a National Change of Address flag.
Is Deceased: records are marked "Deceased" through user updates from the Find a Voter tool.
Using the Advanced Counts Interactive Map
Voters may be selected using an Interactive Map which supports multiple polygon selection sets for turf-cutting, multi-colored pins for Party Affiliation, and detailed household voter information.
Step 2: Set up the Export File
Preview your count results and select Export Count (Basic Counts) or Export File (Advanced Counts) to load the Export Options page. Select Walk List from the List Style options to include the necessary field values for voter contacts.
Registered address: the street address is broken into individual field values including house number, street name, and street type for sorting.
Household Odd/Even: sort addresses by odd/even house number to walk one side of the street and then the other side.
Primary Phone: the mobile or landline phone number with the most recent update and highest Telephone Reliability Code.
Party Affiliation: includes Observed Party, Official Party, and Calculated Party as appropriate for the voter's state.
Political Geography: the voter's Congressional District (CD), State Senate District (SD), State Legislative District (LD), and County or Parish Name.
Precinct Number and Precinct Name: the voter's Precinct or Election District
Voter Record Numbers: reference the voter record by Voter Key (GOP DC Voter Id), HH Rec ID (Household Record ID), Client ID (RNC ID), and State Voter ID (such as VUID).
Geocodes: Latitude, Longitude, and Map Code (geocode precision) values are derived from the voter's registered address
USPS Mailing Codes: use US Postal Service carrier codes for sorting by address.
Neighborhood ID and Reg Address ID: use for sorting by neighborhood groups or by common registered address groups.
Adding Vote History
Your voter list may be appended with Vote History for specified elections. Each selected election will be added as a separate column using the Election Code value. For example, the 2022 General Election vote status will be listed in your export as "VH22G."
Step 3: Choose Household and Sorting Options
The default Walk List Household and Sort options include Households - Only Members Matching Count and sorted by Voter Within Precincts. Choose other options to include Individual Voters or to sort by Neighborhood, Precinct by Street Order, or Odd/Even Order.
Using Household Name Format
When selecting any Household option except Individual Voters, the export file's first column will contain a salutation to be used for addressing mailers or contacts.
Using the Random Sample
Select Random and add a sample size number to add randomly selected records for your list. Please note that your assigned Export Limit is not applied to your sample size and is affected by the overall individual record count.
Step 4: Export and Download the Voter List
Name your file if needed and choose the appropriate export file format:
CSV: Comma-separated values text file. CSV files have no row or column limit, and they can be opened into a spreadsheet application or imported into a database table.
XLSX: file format for Microsoft Excel 2007 and later.
XLS: original file format for Microsoft Excel, with a worksheet limit of 65,536 rows.
MDB: database file format for Microsoft Access.
Select Export Data Now to submit your request to the Export Queue. Go to My Data > My Exports to view progress and to download or share your exported file when completed.
Individual precinct lists may also be downloaded in separate PDF files using the Precinct Call List option. Voter contact applications can use export files for creating new walking lists within the application.
