Update the name your customers see, in full compliance with Meta's rules
🔎 What is the display name?
The display name is your company's name as it appears to customers in WhatsApp Business conversations. It's the first thing they see when they receive a message from you, so it needs to be clear, recognisable and compliant with Meta's rules.
💡 Good to know: this name is different from the name of your phone number or your Meta Business Manager profile. It's specifically the name attached to your WhatsApp Business certificate. |
🛠️ Step by step: changing your display name
You can make this change directly from Meta Business Manager, without going through WAX.
⚠️ Heads up: once submitted, the request goes through a review process that depends on your account status (see below). |
⏳ What happens after you submit?
The review time depends on how verified your Meta Business account is.
Account status | Outcome |
Unverified | The new name is confirmed immediately, and the certificate is available straight away |
Verified | The name moves to "Pending Review" status — usually count on 24 to 48 hours before approval |
Official Business Account (OBA) | Self-service isn't available: you'll need to contact WhatsApp/Meta support directly |
💡 CRM tip: if you're running a campaign or a launch around that date, build in a 48-hour safety margin before announcing the new name to your teams or your customers. |
✅ Rules to follow to avoid rejection
Meta reviews every request against specific criteria. Here's what to watch out for before submitting a change:
The name must accurately reflect your brand or registered company name
It must be consistent with your verified assets (Facebook Page, Business Manager)
❌ No emojis, special characters or misleading symbols
❌ Avoid generic or sensitive terms such as "Official" or "Global"
⚠️ If your request is rejected, Meta will give you a reason: adjust the name according to the rules above and submit the request again. |
🔁 How many times can you change your display name?
You can change your display name up to 10 times over a 30-day period. Beyond that, a new request requires contacting Meta support directly.
