How do I create a dynamic or static account group?

As of October 2026, you can now build account groups (also known as “customer lists”) in two ways:

  • Dynamic groups/lists -- Customer lists that populate themselves based on criteria you set

    • For example, “all customers in route X”

  • Static groups/lists -- Customer lists that you populate manually

    • For example, a one-off grouping for a loyalty program

Once you’ve setup a group, you can then open it to see what customers are part of it as well as run bulk actions on them (i.e. batch invoices, mass messaging, etc.).

Who is this article for?

Office admins, billing teams, and customer service reps who regularly group accounts and take actions across entire segments of accounts. In this article, we cover:

  • Choosing between a dynamic and a static group

  • Naming and describing the group

  • Setting rules (dynamic) or picking accounts (static)

  • Reviewing and creating the group

Before we start

Your user will need the Service permission set to Full to be able to create groups.

Note if you intend to send a mass SMS to a group, you’ll also need Messaging enabled in order to send text messages.

How do I create a group?

Go to Customers > Groups > Accounts and click New Group in the top right corner.

In the Details section, select what type of group you’re making:

  • Dynamic -- Automatically populates with customers who fit the criteria you specify

  • Static -- A fixed list of customers you choose now

Give your group a recognizable Group Name and Description your team can reliably understand moving forward.

When creating a Dynamic group, the Accounts section will ask you to define what criteria a customer should meet in order to be part of the group.

When creating a Static group, the Accounts section will ask you to choose which specific customers should be part of the group.

The Review section will recap the list you’re about to make.

If all looks good, click Create Group at the bottom right to create your new account group.

You’ll then be taken to your account group’s details page, complete with valuable financial information spanning across all the customers part of said group.

You can also access any account group's details page by clicking anywhere on its card or by clicking the View Details option in a group's 3-dot menu.

In the group's detail view, you can use the menus and buttons in the top right corner of an account group’s details page to take bulk actions on all customers within that group, for example:

  • Resenting unpaid invoices

  • Bulk updating billing profile

  • Turning suspension proration on/off

  • Suspending and unsuspending accounts

  • Bulk adding tags and notes

  • Bulk sending Customer Portal invites

You can also export via CSV or PDF.

How do I edit my account group’s customer list?

If it’s a Dynamic list, you can update the list’s criteria in the Rules section of the account group’s details page.

If it’s a Static list, you can click Add Account(s) in the top right corner of the account group’s detail page.
