As of October 2026, you can now require your team to fill in a customer’s phone, email, or both every time they create a new account. This keeps your customers’ records complete from day one so that you aren’t chasing down contact information or sending invoices to email addresses that bounce.
When a customer has no email, you won't need a placeholder address. Hauler Hero will ask whether to turn on Receives Printed Copy, so your team knows to mail their invoices.
Who is this article for?
This article is for CRM users who manage your company’s data entry rules and team members who create new accounts. In this article, we cover:
Turning on the required fields via Settings
What your team sees when a required field is left blank
How to mark an account to receive printed invoices
Before we start
The ability to set required customer (contact) fields is done through Settings > Account Settings. If you don’t see this section and you want to setup required phone and/or email, please reach out to Support via the chat bubble or support@haulerhero.com.
To be able to actually update these settings, your user’s role in CRM needs its Settings permission set to Edit or higher.
How do I make phone and/or email required?
Go to Settings > Account Settings > Required Fields.
Then, enable the required phone and/or email toggles to make their corresponding customer field required.
Each toggle will automatically save your settings update; there’s no need to click a “save” button.
How will this look when I create/edit a customer?
Now, when you create a customer, you’ll see a * next to the phone and/or email fields, depending on which you set to be required.
If Contact Phone is left blank, you’ll see an error preventing you from continuing.
If Billing Email is required and left blank, you'll see a prompt asking whether to turn on Receives Printed Copy for the account so your team mails their invoices. Choose Go back and add email to add one instead.
In the customer’s Billing > Billing Details section, you’ll see a toggle reflecting this setting, Receives Printed Copy.
What does Receives Printed Copy do?
When Receives Printed Copy is on, your team should print and mail this customer's invoices.
It doesn't stop email. If the account has a billing email, Hauler Hero still emails its invoices. The customer gets both an email and a printed copy.
Hauler Hero doesn't print or mail anything for you. It marks the account so your team knows which invoices to send by mail.
It applies to the customer's whole account, not to a single billing profile.
To find the invoices to print, go to Billing > Invoices, show the Receives Printed Copy column and filter it to Yes.
If an account has no billing email and Receives Printed Copy is off, the customer won't get their invoices by mail or email. You'll see a warning on the customer's Billing tab when this happens.
Can I turn Receives Printed Copy on or off later?
Yes! You can enable and disable Receives Printed Copy at any time in the customer’s Billing > Billing Details section.
You can also update it via the 3-dot menu on the Customer Profile page and clicking Edit.
