How to enable "inherit billing profile settings"

Explains how to access and enable (or disable) the "inherit billing profile settings" to ensure customers' payment terms and billing profile remain aligned.

Updated this week

What does the "inherit billing profile settings" checkbox do?

Each individual customer account profile has an “Inherit billing profile settings” option. When this is turned on, the customer automatically picks up the payment terms from whichever billing profile they’re assigned to.

  • If you switch a customer to a new billing profile and “Inherit billing profile settings” is on, their payment terms will update to match the new profile.

  • If “Inherit billing profile settings” is off or unchecked, the customer keeps their individually configured settings, even after you switch profiles. This may be desired if the customer has unique contract terms or pricing.

Tip: If you switch billing profiles and a customer’s payment terms don’t update as expected, check whether “Inherit billing profile settings” is turned on for that account.

How to check if “inherit billing profile settings” is turned on

  1. From the main Customers tab at the top, open the customer’s account.

  2. Click the Billing tab of the customer’s screen.

  3. Under the “Billing Details“ heading, select the vertical three dots icon.

  4. Click Payment terms.

  5. Here you’ll see a checkbox for “inherit payment terms from billing profile”. If it's checked, that means this setting is on.

  6. Click Save.
