My project won’t save or export. What should I do?

Written by Anastasia

If a project won’t save, the export stops at some percentage, or the app closes while saving, try these steps in order.

1. Start with the basics

  • Close background apps and restart your device.

  • Update Instories and your operating system to the latest version.

  • Make sure at least 5 GB of storage is free. You can also open the side menu → Clear cache.

  • Check your internet connection, or switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.

2. Don’t interrupt the export

Keep Instories open on the screen and your phone unlocked until the export finishes. If the screen locks or you switch to another app, iOS can pause the process.

3. If one project won’t save

  • Make a copy of the project and try exporting the copy.

  • Make the project lighter: fewer pages, photos or videos. Very large files, such as 4K videos, can cause problems.

  • For carousels, save slides one by one with Only current page instead of all pages at once.

  • On iPhone, photos taken in ProRAW or 48 MP can be too large to save. For future shots, you can choose 24 or 12 MP in iPhone Settings → Camera → Formats.

4. On the web

Try exporting in another browser. If Safari shows “Load failed”, open the project in Google Chrome.

👉 Please Note: Please don’t delete the app to fix saving: deleting it also deletes all your projects.

Still not saving?

Write to us in the support chat and send:

  • the app version, your phone model and OS version;

  • a screen recording from tapping Save until the error appears;

  • a link to the project: open My Projects → tap the three dots on the project → Share to edit → copy the link. Please send the link, not a file.
