This item was unlisted previously; Barcode released after 120 days from that previous unlist/last order date

This error is issued by the Target+ platform and relates to the barcode (GTIN/UPC) of a product that was recently unlisted.

Target+'s system is preventing you from relisting or activating the item using the same barcode because it has entered a mandatory 120-day "lockout" period.

Why the 120-Day Lockout Exists

This rule is a crucial measure for Target to maintain inventory and refund data integrity. The 120-day period is specifically set to align with and exceed the longest possible standard customer return window:

  1. Standard Return Window: Most items at Target have a 90-day return policy.

  2. Extended Return Window: Customers who use the Target Circle Card (formerly RedCard) receive an extended return period of 120 days (90 days + 30 extra days).

To avoid the critical scenario where a customer returns an item (associated with the old, unlisted barcode) after you have reactivated the item with the same barcode but new product data, the system imposes the 120-day buffer. This ensures that any potential return, even from the last sale made to a RedCard holder, can be fully processed against the original, unlisted product record.

How to Resolve This Error

You have two options to proceed:

  1. Wait for the Barcode Release: You must wait until 120 days have passed since the date the item was previously unlisted or the date of the last order placed for that item. Once the 120 days are up, the barcode will be released, and you can attempt to relist the item.

  2. Use a New Barcode: If you need the item to go live immediately, the quickest solution is to update the product using a new, unique, and valid GTIN/UPC.

This new barcode won’t inherit the unlisting history of the previous one, so it can be used to bypass the lockout period. We recommend obtaining Target's approval before proceeding.
