Book Creator can be integrated directly into Google Classroom using our Google Workspace Add-on. This allows teachers to create assignments, and students to launch and turn in their books, all without ever leaving Google Classroom.

Installing the Add-on

A Google Workspace Administrators will first need to install or allowlist the app from the Google Workspace Marketplace.

πŸ’¬ Note: If you don't see Book Creator under the "Add-ons" section when creating an assignment, ask your IT Admin to "Install the Book Creator Add-on for the domain."

You can choose from the following options:

Create a new book - a blank book will be created for each student in the a library of your choosing.

Start with a copy of a book - if you have a template book you'd like your students to all start from. You will choose an existing book in a library and your students will all get their own editable copy to work with.

Collaborate on a book together - All students will work on the same book together. -

Follow the prompts in the set-up wizard until you see the Book Creator attachment added to the assignment.

Finish your Google Classroom settings (points, due date, etc.) and click Assign.

The Student Experience

When students open the assignment in Google Classroom, they will see the Book Creator attachment.

Clicking on the attachment will launch Book Creator and place students directly into the correct book - no invite codes or extra logins required!

When they've finish their work, they can click the Turn In button at the top of the Google Classroom interface.

Grading and Feedback

After a student turns in their work, you can grade it directly within the Google Classroom grading tool.

  • Live Preview: You will see a live, interactive version of the student's book. You can flip pages, play videos, and listen to audio recordings.

  • Speedy Feedback: Use the Google Classroom grading sidebar to leave private comments and grades.

A note on due dates

If an assignment has a due date this will prevent Book Creator being opened from the Google Classroom assignment after that date. However a student could still sign into Book Creator at https://app.bookcreator.com and continue to work on their book. If this is a concern for a particular assignment you may want to turn off editing in the relevant library's settings within Book Creator once the due date has passed.
