What aspect ratios are supported by Cuttable

Learn which creative aspect ratios you can create in Cuttable.

Written by Libby

Summary
Cuttable generates ads in up to four aspect ratios — 1:1, 4:5, 9:16, and (on supported designs) 16:9. This article covers what each ratio is for and what happens to them when you publish or download.

Supported ratios

  • 1:1 (Square)

  • 4:5 (Vertical feed)

  • 9:16 (Full vertical)

  • 16:9 (Horizontal) — available on a limited number of ad designs, with more being added over time

Why each ratio matters

1:1 (Square)

  • Commonly used across Facebook and Instagram feeds.

  • Displays consistently across devices and placements.

  • Useful for broad delivery where placement flexibility is required.

4:5 (Vertical feed)

  • Optimised for Facebook and Instagram feed placements.

  • Takes up more vertical screen space than 1:1, increasing on-screen presence while remaining feed-compatible.

  • Widely recommended by Meta for feed-based ads.

9:16 (Full vertical)

  • Designed for immersive placements such as Instagram Stories, Reels, and Facebook Stories.

  • Matches the natural orientation of mobile devices.

  • Maximizes screen coverage in vertical-first placements.

16:9 (Horizontal)

  • Matches the standard horizontal format used by YouTube and Google Display ads.

Why don't I see 16:9 on every ad?

16:9 support is being rolled out design by design. If a specific ad's design doesn't have a 16:9 layout yet, you won't see it as an option — this is expanding over time.

What happens to each ratio when you publish or download

Ratios are generated together for a design and can't be removed or deselected individually.

Publishing directly to Meta: only 1:1, 4:5, and 9:16 are sent to your Meta campaign. 16:9 is never used for direct Meta publishing — if its layout doesn't suit your design, you don't need to fix or remove it, since it won't affect what's sent to Meta.

Downloading an ad: all generated ratios are included, including 16:9 where available. 16:9 is intended for channels that need a horizontal format, such as YouTube or Google Display. Cuttable doesn't have a direct publishing integration for those platforms yet, so download the ad and upload the 16:9 file yourself.

If the layout for any ratio doesn't look right, edit that specific ratio and adjust the elements — use Review (Shift + R) to check every ratio before publishing.

How to view each ratio when editing your ads

  1. Select Edit ad in the top-right corner of your ad.

  2. In the top-left corner, select an individual ratio to view it, or select Review (Shift + R) to check every ratio before publishing.

Important

  • Using the correct ratio helps prevent unwanted cropping or scaling in Meta placements.

  • Meta may automatically adjust creatives if the selected ratio does not match the placement requirements.
