What are Updox Interpreter Services?
Updox Interpreter Services let providers talk with patients who speak a different language. You can add an interpreter to a Video Chat before the visit starts or during the visit.
What languages are available?
Interpreters are available in 10 languages:
Arabic
Chinese (Mandarin)
French
German
Korean
Nepali
Russian
Somali
Spanish
Vietnamese
Can the interpreter see me or the patient?
No. Interpreters join by audio only. The interpreter can't see you or anyone else in the video chat, and you can't see the interpreter.
How does a patient request an interpreter?
Before the visit: The patient can request an interpreter in one of the 10 languages when they check in.
During the visit: The patient can request an interpreter from inside the video chat.
How do I know if a patient requested an interpreter?
Before the visit: Your Waiting Room has a Language column. If a patient requested an interpreter, that column shows an icon and the language they need. If no interpreter was requested, the column is empty.
During the visit: A pop-up notification at the top of your screen tells you the patient requested an interpreter and which language they need.
How do I add an interpreter before the video chat starts?
Add the interpreter first so the patient and interpreter can join the call at the same time.
In your Waiting Room, click the three dots (⋯) on the far right of the patient's row.
Click Add an interpreter.
In the window that opens, select the language the patient needs.
Click Add to Waiting Room. A new row for the interpreter appears in your Waiting Room.
Check the boxes next to both the patient and the interpreter.
Click Start Video Chat.
Note: The interpreter's audio call connects first, which takes about 15 seconds. The patient joins once the interpreter is connected.
How do I add an interpreter during a video chat?
You can add an interpreter at any time during a video chat: if you find you need one, if you'd rather wait until the patient connects, or if the patient asks for one.
Click Add a phone call or interpreter in the bottom left corner of the video chat.
Click the Interpreter Services tab. A list of languages appears.
Find the language the patient needs and click Call next to it.
The patient gets a notification that an interpreter is being called. The interpreter joins the video chat as soon as they're connected, and you can continue the visit.
