AI Alt Text

Automatically add Alt Text to your images in Caption Pro

Written by Chris Emmerson

Alt text is used by screen readers to describe what is is happening in an image for blind or visually impaired viewers.

You can use Caption Pro to automatically generate Alt Text for you images using the AI Alt Text feature.

Setting up AI Alt Text

Open your project settings and enable AI Alt Text

You can also choose to add additional guidance if you want to add instructions to the software. For example, you can tell the software "Don't describe people's physical features" and it will use that guidance to shape the Alt Text that it generates.

By default, this feature will not try to name people in the image.

Adding this to your Metadata

In order to ensure that this information is being applied to your images correctly, you need to add an "=alt text" formula to the Alt Text metadata field in the project settings:

If your software does not automatically create this formula for you, you can add it yourself by pressing the "=" hotkey in the relevant metadata field and selecting the Alt Text formula from the menu options.

Your images will then be showing the newly added Alt Text in the image viewer to the right of the UI:

AI processes

Using this feature will add 1 extra AI process per image.
