Organizing Images

A walkthrough of how to organize images in your project

Written by Chris Emmerson

There are many features in the project library that allow users to change the order of the images as well as narrow down which images they want to see.

Workflow Stage

All images come into the project marked as 'unconfirmed'. When you 'confirm' an image it means that you are happy with the metadata and you want to lock in the reference faces of the people selected (if that setting is enabled and it is possible).

Once you have confirmed an image it will be marked as 'confirmed' (with a tick icon over the corner of the thumbnail) and when you have saved an image it will be marked as 'saved' (with a floppy disk icon over the corner of the thumbnail).

You are able to filter the project images by workflow stage by selecting the relevant checkboxes in the top left corner of the image library, as seen in the GIF above.

Applying Colors and Star Ratings

Sometimes you want to distinguish between different classes of images within your project and color labels and star ratings are a great way to do this.

If your images already have color labels and star ratings applied to them upon ingestion into the software, Caption Pro should be able to read them already. Otherwise you can add color labels and star ratings by selecting the image(s) and using the right click menu to apply them like so:

You can also do this with the hotkeys (0-8 for colors and ctrl+0-5 for star ratings)

Sorting Images

Users can change the order in which the images in the library are being displayed, by changing the sort order. The images can be sorted by: Date Taken, Date Modified, Filename, Workflow Stage, Star Rating and Colour Rating.

Filtering by people in the image

If you want to only show images that contain certain individuals you can make use of the 'filter by people' feature.

This can be located in the top right corner of the image library. Simply type or select the names of the people you want to search the library for and the available images will be narrowed down to only show that person.

You can search for multiple people at the same time and it will only show images where both people are present.

There are two settings that people can use when filtering by people: 'Narrow Search' and 'Wide Search'.

Narrow Search

When narrow search is enabled the software will only filter the images in the library if the selected person/people have been selected and are in the name bar of the image.

Wide Search

When wide search is selected the software will show all images where the selected names are suggested by the software, so even if they have been filtered out and do not appear in the name bar at all. They could simply be in the background.

Filtering by other variables

Users can also filter the images in the library by star rating and colour rating:
