What does the "Overlimit" badge mean, and how do I fix it?

What it means when your active mailbox or domain count is higher than your paid plan covers, whether you get charged automatically, what breaks if it's left unresolved, and how to fix it.

The Overlimit badge shows up when the number of active mailboxes (or domains) on your account is higher than what your current plan covers — for example, you have 25 active Maildoso SMTP mailboxes running, but your plan only includes 20. Everything keeps sending, receiving and warming up normally; it's a usage state, not a service interruption, but it does mean your account is outside what you're currently paying for.

Why this happens

  • Mailboxes were created through the API or MCP beyond the slots you'd purchased — programmatic creation doesn't stop you at the plan limit the way the dashboard's "Add more email accounts" flow does.

  • You downgraded your plan (fewer mailboxes or domains) while the previous, larger set was still active.

  • A combo plan's Google Workspace/SMTP split changed, leaving more mailboxes on one side than that side's allotment — see Can I switch a mailbox/domain between Google Workspace and SMTP?

Does this bill me automatically?

No. Going Overlimit doesn't trigger an automatic charge for the extra mailboxes or domains — we don't bill you for usage you haven't purchased. It's a signal that your account and your plan are out of sync, not an invoice.

What happens if I leave it as-is

  • You won't be able to create additional mailboxes until the account is back within your plan's limits.

  • Some account-level checks (sync with your sequencer, mailbox count shown to integrations) can behave inconsistently while the account is Overlimit, since they expect your active count to match your plan.

  • Support may reach out to help you true up the account, but you don't need to wait for that — you can resolve it yourself either way below.

How to fix it

There are two ways to clear the Overlimit state — pick whichever matches what you actually want to keep:

If it's not obvious why your account went Overlimit — for example, you didn't add anything recently — contact us with your account email and we'll check what pushed the count over and help you sort out the right fix.
