Drive Chip and Putt events are a popular form of competition amongst juniors where driving, chipping and putting skills are tested. These competitions are different from the typical golf event and require a different setup.
When creating a DCP event, you can:
Set up DCP competitions
Print DCP formatted scorecards
Enter DCP scores on Mangers Site or Mobile App DCP Stations
Display a DCP formatted leaderboard
Download results as a report
In this article, we will discuss the steps to setting up and managing a DCP event. To view an introductory video for DCP events, Click Here.
Create the Event:
The first step is to create a DCP event. Go to Customer Center > Events, Leagues & Trips > Create an Event/League/Trip. Enter the name of the event, select "Drive, Chip and Putt" as the event type, select the date of the event, and enter the event into the appropriate category and season (as shown below).
Click "Get Started". The event will then be created.
Add the Players:
After creating the event, you can add players to the event. In many cases, DCP will provide you with a roster compiled in a spreadsheet. We suggest uploading the spreadsheet to add your players (Golfers > Upload Roster via Spreadsheet). When doing so, all important player information will be uploaded (including age category and gender).
If you do not have a spreadsheet from DCP, we still suggest compiling one to upload. When compiling the spreadsheet, we suggest including their age category to easily create divisions later (as shown below).
To upload, go to Golfers > Upload Roster from Spreadsheet. Click Here for instructions on uploading a roster via spreadsheet.
An alternative to adding players via spreadsheet is entering them manually. Click Here for instructions on manually entering players.
Set Up Divisions:
If you uploaded a spreadsheet provided by DCP, divisions will automatically be created for you using DCP rules. You can view and edit your divisions by going to Golfers > Event Divisions, Flights, Teams (as shown below).
If you did not upload a spreadsheet provided by DCP, you can fill divisions manually or by custom field (e.g., age category, etc). Click Here for more details on creating divisions.
Create Pairings:
In most cases for DCP events, pairings are organized by division. However, you can also mix the pairings to include players from different divisions.
To create pairings, follow these instructions:
Go to Rounds > Choose Playing Divisions.
If creating pairings by division, select the divisions (leaving "All Golfers" unselected). If the pairings are mixed, select "All Golfers" instead.
Click "Save".
Go to Rounds > Create New Pairings.
Set up the scheduling parameters. You can create pairings randomly using our automatic scheduler, create pairings manually, create pairings by custom field, or create pairings by entry number. If you are creating pairings by division, you will need to select the parameters for each division one at a time. Click Here for more details on your scheduling options.
After the scheduling parameters are set, you can review them (as shown below) and click "Continue".
After the pairings are generated, set the course and tee. The selected tee is irrelevant to the scoring so any tee can be selected.
Set the tee times or shotgun start (optional).
Make any other necessary adjustments on the Edit Existing Pairings page.
Save the pairings.
Set up Tournaments:
Just like typical golf events, tournament competitions need to be set up for a DCP event. To do this, follow these instructions:
Go to Rounds > Tournaments > Add New Tournament.
Enter or select the following parameters:
Name the tournament
Divisions: Select the divisions competing in the tournament. If setting up an overall competition that includes all divisions, select "All Golfers".
Skill: Select Overall, Drive, Chip, or Putt. If selecting Overall, the cumulative score from the drive, chip, and putt scores will be used.
Tie-breaking: The following tie-breaking methods are available:
Putt Rank, Then Chip, then Drive (Overall Skill Competition Only): Break ties by the rank of the player in the putting competition, chipping competition, then drive competition.
3rd Drive, then 2nd, then 1st: Break ties by the score of the player's 3rd drive, 2nd drive, then 1st.
3rd Chip, then 2nd, then 1st: Break ties by the score of the player's 3rd chip, 2nd chip, then 1st.
3rd Putt, then 2nd, then 1st: Break ties by the score of the player's 3rd putt, 2nd putt, then 1st.
Cut Lines & Section: If there is a cut to advance to a later stage of a DCP competition, you can set the cut line to the low X players (ties must be resolved) or low X players plus ties. You can also label alternates on the leaderboard using section lines. In the cut line example setup below, the top three players (ties must be resolved) advance while the next two players are considered alternates.
Save the tournament.
Repeat these steps for any remaining skill competitions.
Print Scorecards:
A DCP formatted scorecard template is already available to customize and print. To access the scorecard template, go to Rounds > Print Scorecards.
The template is contained as a document created using the Page Composer (as shown below).
You can download and print the scorecards immediately or further customize them. For more details on using the Page Composer, Click Here.
Enter Scores on Managers Site:
The score entry page is easily formatted for you and your managers to enter scores for all skill competitions. If you have volunteers on the course you can to use the Mobile App to enter scores, with Mobile DCP Stations. For complete details on setting up and entering scores with Mobile DCP Station, Click Here.
To enter scores on the manager site for the competitions, follow these instructions:
Go to Rounds > Enter Scores.
Select a pairing group.
Enter the pairing group's scores for each skills competition (as shown below).
Click "Done".
Repeat these steps for other pairing groups.
You can also organize the score entry page by players rather than pairing groups by displaying it as "Individual" (as shown below).
View the Leaderboard:
As scores are being entered, you can view and display the DCP formatted leaderboard on the Manager Site by going to Rounds > Display Leaderboard (as shown below).
When clicking on a player, you can view more details (as shown below).
You can set up the TV display leaderboard by going to Rounds > Display Leaderboard > TV Display.
You can also allow players and family to view the leaderboard on the event portal (as shown below).
Downloading Results:
After the event is finalized, you can download the results onto a spreadsheet. To do this, follow these instructions:
Go to Rounds > Report Center > Basic Spreadsheets.
Download the "DCP Results Spreadsheet" (as shown below).
Select the tournament to be used to generate the results (as shown below).
Click "Download".
The spreadsheet (suitable for submission to www.drivechipandputt.com) will then be downloaded and include the following information:
Site name
Date
Player Enter Number
Last Name
First Name
Player City
Player State
Division
Drive Score
Chip Score
Putt Score
DNS & DNF Indicator: Players that did not finish or compete in the competition should be listed as DNS or DNF. These players will have a value of "T" in the report.
ADV: The value of "T" indicates that the player advanced to the next competition.
ALT: The value of "T" indicates that the player is considered an alternate to advance to the next competition.
