Settings - Property Types & Target Areas

Define property structures and the treatment zones within them

Written by Rosie O'hara

Summary

Property types describe the kind of location you service, and target areas are the specific zones within each type where you apply materials. The two most common property types are Commercial and Residential. Inside each, you set the target areas — for example, a Loading Dock in a Commercial property, or a Bedroom in a Residential property. Applying the correct property type to a customer's location is critical so techs see the right target areas when completing a work order on the mobile app.

Key Points

  • Create a property type for each kind of location you service

  • Add target areas inside each property type

  • Assigning the correct property type to a customer location is essential for accurate service

How to Get to Property Types

From the top of the Navigation menu, click Settings (gear icon)

Under the heading Pest & Material Settings, click Property Types & Target Areas

How to Create a Property Type

Click the Add Property Type button in the upper right

Fill in the form:

  • Name — the property type (for example, Commercial or Residential)

  • Description — an optional note about this type

  • Hidden — check to keep this type from being used going forward

  • Default Property Type — check to make this the default for new locations

Click the dark grey Add Property Type button to save

How to Add target areas

  1. Click the property type you just created

  2. On the next page, click Add Target Area in the upper-right corner

Fill out the Form:

  • Area Name — the zone where material is applied (for example, Stairwells)

  • Parent Area (Optional) — leave as None (Root Level) for a standalone area, or select a parent to nest this area under a larger one

Click the green Add Area button to save your progress

Why the correct property type matters

Important note: If you arrive at a commercial site but the location's property type is accidentally set to Residential, you won't be able to apply the correct target areas. You'll see residential zones (bedrooms, kitchens, closets) instead of commercial ones (loading docks, break rooms, dumpsters). Always confirm the property type on the customer's Location page.

For ideas on target areas for different property types, see Property Types and Their Target Areas.

Important note: Anytime you change something in Settings, your techs must Reload Data in the mobile app to see the change.
