Summary
You can comment on any ad in Cuttable to share feedback with your team. Comments on an ad can be read and replied to from the comment button on the ad, without opening the ad. You can tag a teammate with @ so that teammate gets an email, edit or delete comments you left yourself, and tag Cuttable in a comment to ask Cuttable to make a change to the ad for you.
How to read and reply to comments on an ad
Comments on an ad open from the comment (speech bubble) button on the ad in an ad group. To read and reply to comments on an ad:
Open the ad group that contains the ad.
On the ad, select the comment (speech bubble) button. The number next to the button is the total number of comments on that ad.
Read the comment thread in the Comments panel. The panel shows the latest 3 comments. To see older comments, select Show earlier comments.
Type your comment in the reply box, then select Send.
The Comments panel stays open after you select Send, so you can see your comment added to the end of the thread. To close the Comments panel, select the X in its top corner.
Seeing recent comments without opening them
Hovering over the comment button on an ad shows a short list of the most recent comments on that ad. The list shows the last 3 comments, newest first, with the name of the person who wrote each comment and how long ago each comment was left. Your own comments are marked (You). If the ad has more than 3 comments, the list ends with the number of other comments, for example +6 others.
If a comment does not send
A new comment appears in the thread straight away, marked Sending…, and changes to a normal comment once it is saved. If a comment can't be saved, for example because your internet connection dropped, the comment is marked Not sent. To try sending the comment again, select Retry. To remove the unsent comment, select Discard.
How to tag a teammate in a comment
Tagging a teammate in a comment on an ad sends that teammate an email about the comment. To tag a teammate:
In the reply box, type @.
Select one or more teammates from the menu, then select Add. Each teammate you tag appears as a name in your comment, and a note under the reply box lists who will be emailed.
Select Send.
You can tag up to 20 people in one comment. You are not emailed about your own comment, even if you tag yourself.
How to edit a comment
You can change the wording of a comment you left, for example to fix a typo. Comments are edited from the Activity list in the ad's detail panel. To edit a comment:
Select the ad to open its detail panel.
Under Activity, hover over your comment and select the ... menu, then select Edit.
Change the text, then select Save.
An edited comment shows (edited) next to its timestamp, so anyone reading the comment can see the wording changed after it was first posted.
⭐ Important: A comment can't be saved with no text. To remove a comment, delete the comment instead of clearing the text.
How to delete a comment
Deleting a comment removes the comment from the ad for everyone on your account. Comments are deleted from the Activity list in the ad's detail panel. To delete a comment:
Select the ad to open its detail panel.
Under Activity, hover over your comment and select the ... menu, then select Delete.
Select Delete again to confirm.
A deleted comment no longer appears on the ad and is not counted in the ad's comment total. Deleting a comment does not change the ad itself.
Who can edit or delete a comment
You can edit and delete the comments you left yourself. You can't edit or delete a comment left by someone else on your account. The Cuttable support team can edit or delete any comment when helping with a support request.
How to ask Cuttable to edit an ad
You can ask Cuttable to make a change to an ad by tagging Cuttable in a comment on that ad. Tagging Cuttable works at any time, including after your Recut chat has ended, so you don't need to brief again or edit the ad by hand. To ask Cuttable to edit an ad:
Select the ad to open its detail panel, then go to Activity.
In the comment box, type @ and choose Cuttable from the menu.
Describe the change you want, for example "make the headline white".
Select Send.
A comment that doesn't tag Cuttable is a normal comment and doesn't change the ad.
What happens after you tag Cuttable
After you tag Cuttable in a comment, Cuttable makes the change and checks the change in every ad size (9:16, 4:5, and 1:1), then updates the ad. While Cuttable is working, your comment shows Cuttable is working…, the ad shows Editing…, and the comment box is locked until the change is finished. When the change is finished, Cuttable replies in the same thread with what it changed and anything it couldn't do.
Timing: Most changes take a few minutes. A longer change updates the ad automatically when it's done.
One request at a time: Cuttable works on one request per ad at a time. The comment box on that ad stays locked until the current request is finished.
Check the ad: After Cuttable replies, preview the ad to make sure every change you asked for was made.
Who can ask: Only members of your Cuttable account can ask Cuttable to edit an ad. A reviewer commenting through a share link can leave comments, but Cuttable replies that only members of the account can ask it to edit the ad.
Changes you can ask Cuttable to make
You can ask Cuttable to make these changes to an ad:
Text: Change the size, color, bold, highlight, line spacing, or box width of text. Style a single word or phrase. Move text away from a face or the product, or out of the area covered by the Instagram and Facebook buttons. Hide or show a piece of text. Change when added text appears and disappears, for example "show the badge from 2 to 5 seconds". Change the wording of text (except on Recut ads).
Images and video: Move, resize, or re-crop an image or video, for example "crop tighter on the product". Swap an image for one from your media library, your products, or your Brand Kit. Cut a product out of its background, remove text or badges printed on a photo, or make a tall 9:16 version of a square product photo. Fill an empty image placeholder. Remove an image that was added on top of the ad. Turn a sideways or upside-down video upright. Make a background photo darker or lighter, or change the background to a solid color.
Logos: Switch to another color version of your logo, for example "use the white logo". Swap to a different brand logo, or add a logo. Move or resize a logo that was added on top of the ad.
Shapes and layers: Add a basic shape, such as a rectangle, circle, or pill, with or without a label, and set its color, outline, corners, and entrance animation. Bring an item to the front or send it behind another item.
General improvements: Ask "improve this ad" and Cuttable fixes readability, overlapping items, text cut off at the edge of the ad, and anything hidden by the Instagram and Facebook buttons.
Cuttable uses the colors in your Brand Kit, white, black, and the colors already in the ad. Cuttable can't use any other color.
How Cuttable edits Recut ads
Recut ads are ads made from your own video clips. When you ask Cuttable to edit a Recut ad, Cuttable keeps the story of the ad as it is.
On a Recut ad, Cuttable can:
Move, resize, and recolor text so the text reads clearly and stays off faces and products.
Re-crop or zoom a clip, and turn a sideways clip upright.
Fix a flash or black frame where two clips join.
Tidy captions by removing filler words (such as "um"), false starts, and repeated words.
On a Recut ad, Cuttable won't change what is said, the order of the clips, the music, the length of the ad or any clip, or the wording of on-screen text. To change the wording of on-screen text on a Recut ad, edit the text in the editor.
Changes Cuttable can't make yet
When you tag Cuttable in a comment, Cuttable can't make these changes to any ad yet:
Change the music, sound, or voiceover.
Change the caption style or caption position.
Change animations or transitions, other than a shape's entrance animation.
Make a clip longer or shorter, change a clip's speed, or reorder clips.
Create new photos or video, or edit inside a photo, such as removing an object or changing a face.
Use an image attached to the comment. Upload the image to your media library first, then name the image in your comment.
Change the ad design or overall layout, or crop a split-screen section.
Make changes to other ads, campaigns, or budgets, or answer questions about ad performance.
Tips for asking Cuttable
Cuttable gives the best results when each comment is clear and specific:
Ask for one clear change per comment.
Name the item you mean, for example "the headline", "the price badge", or "the second clip".
For a specific photo, give the photo's file name or describe the photo.

Reviewers you share an ad group with by link can leave comments on ads without a Cuttable account. Reviewers can't ask Cuttable to edit an ad. To set up sharing, see How to Share an Ad Group for External Review.
