Scorecard Composer
______________________________________________
While the current scorecard creator met most requirements for users, sometimes there is a need for more customization and flexibility. We have combined our classic scorecard functions with the power and flexibility of our Report and Page Composers to create the new Scorecard Composer.
Using the Scorecard Composer, you can now:
Move and re-size the entire scorecard table
Add images, text, data fields, and other objects anywhere on the canvas
Save and organize the scorecards in the Report Center
Share and discover scorecards with the User Community
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Reporting at the Customer Center Level
______________________________________________
With today’s release, the Report Center has been added at the Customer Center level. This allows managers to:
Generate a listing of events with the ability select from a variety of available data fields (event name, round dates, courses, registration opening date, number of golfers registered, registration fees, etc).
Generate a listing of players from the master roster with the ability to select from all standard and custom fields (player name, city, state, affiliation, gender, etc).
Sort & Filter the Event List
______________________________________________
We have listened to your feedback regarding the organization of Events in the Customer Center and are adding new functionality in this area. With this release, a manager may now:
Choose to view your events in the traditional Category View or in the new List View
Filter to only see a specific Season, Category, or Upcoming Events
Sort Events by Start Date, Registration Open/Close Date, or other options
You may also quickly find events by typing a few characters into the convenient Search Bar
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Bracket Scorecard View
______________________________________________
Before today, in order to view the Hole-by-Hole Scorecard for a match in a bracket, a user would first need to change to the List View and then click on the match. We have now added the functionality for a user to simply click on a player in the Bracket View to display the Match Scorecard.
New Handicapping Options
______________________________________________
Today's release enhances the handicapping abilities already offered for various formats, including 6/6/6, 3/3/3, By Par, By Hole, and more. This new option is a USGA Recommended way to handicap these types of tournaments.
In the example below, the team of Adams/Cole is playing in a 6/6/6 competition. The Handicap Analysis shown is for the 6 holes of Alternate Shot where 50% of the Team Total Handicap will be used. The final line shows that once the full 18-hole Course Handicap has been calculated for the team, we now take 33% of that Course Handicap. The 6 holes being played are then re-ranked based on their Stroke Allocation and the scorecard is stroked appropriately.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article for 6/6/6, 3/3/3, or 9/9 competitions, or our article for other subsets of holes (By Par, By Hole, etc.).
Marking Scorecards as Checked
______________________________________________
In this feature, we are adding a new option on the Enter Scores page that allows a manager to mark a scorecard as Checked, which disables live scoring for that pairing group on the mobile app, and changes the scorecard status from "All Holes Completed" to "Scorecard Checked".
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.

This functionality allows managers to easily select a different name format to display across all leaderboards (e.g., “J. Doe”) without affecting the Handle field.
Print Only Selected Leaderboards
Managers can now print or export specific tournaments from a leaderboard.
Team Ringer Scores on Scorecards
______________________________________________
Before this update, managers were able to include an individual player's current Ringer Scores (or Eclectic Scores) on a scorecard for the player to reference. We have now expanded this functionality for Team Ringer competitions.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.

Match Play Enhancements
______________________________________________
Today's release includes several Match Play enhancements:
Match Number - We now show the Match Number for a Bracket Match on the Pairings Page and the Enter Scores Page.
Match Status - When entering and viewing the hole-by-hole scores for a match, the winning score for each hole is now highlighted. Additionally, the status of the match is now shown above and below the scoring rows to show the progression of the match.
Entering Match Results - Managers can now enter the match results or points without entering hole-by-hole scores. This enables quick manual entry for users who just want to input the match result.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Enhancements for Skins
______________________________________________
Today's release includes several enhancements for Skins:
Automatically split skins across multiple courses
Automatically calculate the skins pot based on number of players and entry fee
Round payouts to any increment you chose ($1, $5, etc)
View all holes including cases where skins are halved and cases where skins are won (as shown below)
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Tiebreaking with Last 9,6,3,1
______________________________________________
Prior to today's release, the "last 9,6,3,1" tiebreaking method utilized the stroke allocation table to determine how the handicap strokes fall across each set of holes used in the tiebreaking sequence. If two or more players/teams are tied after 18 holes, the last 9 holes are used to break the tie (while allocating handicap strokes as they fall for each player across the last 9 holes). If two or more players/teams are still tied for the last 9 holes, the last 6 holes are used to break the tie (while allocating handicap strokes as they fall for each player across the last 6 holes). And so on until the tie is broken.
With today's release, we now offer two variants of "last 9,6,3,1" tiebreaking:
Countback (Last 9, 6, 3, 1) - This method uses the stroke allocation table and preserves the behavior described above.
USGA (Last 9, 6, 3, 1) - This method takes the appropriate proportion of a player's 18-hole Course Handicap when determining their net score for the purpose of tiebreaking. For the last 9 holes, one half of the 18-hole Course Handicap will be used. For the last 6 holes, one third of the 18-hole Course Handicap will be used. And so on. If fractional handicaps arise (e.g. half of 11 is 5.5), the fractional handicap is rounded to the nearest whole number (fractions of 0.5 or higher are rounded up while fractions less than 0.5 are truncated) before determining the net score for tiebreaking. For full details, please refer to the USGA Handicap System Manual, Section 9-6(iii).
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Improvements on the Enter Scores Page
______________________________________________
Before today’s release, the Enter Scores Page was always sorted by Pairing Group Number. With today's release, managers now have the ability to view the Enter Scores Page by Pairing Group or by Individual Player. Then within the chosen view, managers can sort in various ways (e.g. Pairing Group Number, Last Name, Tee Time, etc).
This allows you to orient the page as needed to streamline the score entry process and perform a specific function. In the example below, the Enter Scores Page is displayed by Individual Player and sorted by Last Name.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Tees by Division or Flight
______________________________________________
With today’s release, managers can now assign the Course & Tee at the Division or Flight level for each round of an event or league (as shown below).
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Marking a Single Tournament as Completed
______________________________________________
Managers now have the ability to mark a single tournament as Completed while other tournaments remain In Progress. This is useful when you need to complete a tournament for a division or flight (thereby applying tiebreakers and determining results for a given tournament) while other divisions or flights are completing play.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Additional Enhancements
______________________________________________
"City, State or Country" Field - This field displays the city and state (if applicable) or the country (otherwise). Prior to today's release, this field could be shown on leaderboards. With today's release, this field is now available in all composers (report composer, page composer, and spreadsheet composer).
Best Gross + 2nd Net - This is a new tournament format which takes the lowest Gross ball and adds the lowest Net ball of the remaining scores on the team.
Players Page in Portals - Managers now have the option of showing Confirmed, Waitlisted, and Pending registrations on the Players page in event portals.
Player Round Statistics - Player round statistics (as shown below) are now available in email templates and all composers (report composer, page composer, and spreadsheet composer).

Player Information on Leaderboard
______________________________________________
Prior to this release, managers could choose to show or hide the Affiliation field under each player's name on the leaderboard.
With this release, managers can now select which information should appear under each player's name (e.g. city/state, city/state/country, affiliation, etc) for any given event. The example below shows a leaderboard with "City, State" selected as the information to display.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Customizable Header in TV Leaderboard
______________________________________________
Prior to this release, TV leaderboards used a fixed format for the header which included event name, tournament name, division/flight name (if applicable), and date.
For any given event, managers now have three options:
Use the standard header (by default)
Customize the header
Remove the header
In the example below, the header has been customized to show the event name and event date while also customizing the font sizes.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Leader Bar on TV Leaderboards
______________________________________________
Managers now have the ability to show a bar at the top of the TV leaderboard to highlight the leader(s) along with the leading score. This bar continues to appear as the TV leaderboard pages through the full field results. As shown in the example below, this allows your golfers and viewers to keep the leaders (and leading score) in mind while viewing lower sections of the leaderboard.
If an event has multiple competitions (e.g. competitions split across divisions or flights), the leader bar will show the leader(s) for the competition that is currently displayed.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Favorites on Leaderboard
______________________________________________
Event website visitors can now select and track their favorite players on the leaderboard. As shown below, favorites are selected by clicking the star next to a player's name and the favorites are shown at the top of the page. This is a great way for family, friends, and fans to easily follow players in a large field.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Pairing Management Improvements
______________________________________________
The wave management tool (which automates pairing generation for large fields with split course, split tee, and/or split time) now allows managers to organize waves by division and by blocks within divisions (if needed).
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
We've also made the following improvements to the pairing management tool:
Ability to delete all pairings (more information)
Ability to control how ties are broken when generating pairings for the next round or moving from stroke play to bracket (more information)
Ability to control whether small groups go first or last (more information)
Ability to sort the pairings page by starting time or starting hole
Improvements to Score Entry
______________________________________________
In this release, we've made the following improvements to the score entry page in the Manager Site:
Ability to automatically remove DQ/WD/NC/NS/DNF from all future rounds (more information)
Logging of the "clear scores" action (capturing who and when this action was taken)
Ability to enter HBH scores out to two digits by holding the Shift key down (more information)
Help Popup in Event Websites
______________________________________________
With this release, managers will now be able to select and control which manager name(s) appear when golfers click the help button in an event website. As shown below, this is a great way to route golfer inquiries to the appropriate member(s) of the tournament operations team for each event.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Other improvements in this release include:
Ability to delete events at the Customer Center level (more information)
New tab in the player profile at the Master Roster level showing the player's event participation history (more information)
Ability for managers to optionally receive an email notification when registered players cancel their registration
Option to show or hide manager name in the flash message on an event website

Report Center
______________________________________________
High-quality printed materials are an integral part of tournament operations. Scorecards, cart signs, and tee sheets are just the beginning of a long list of printed material needed to run a successful tournament.
Prior to this release, we provided a set of standard reports along with the Report Composer, Scorecard Composer, Page Composer, Scoreboard Composer, and Spreadsheet Composer. Together, these tools allowed you to produce the variety of printed materials needed for tournament operations.
To consolidate these tools while improving navigation, organization, and sharing of printed materials, we've developed a major new feature called the Report Center which allows you to:
Access all printed materials in one place
Organize printed materials into categories
Easily preview, edit, and run reports
Discover reports from the user community
Create and share reports with the user community
Here's a short video to show you how it works.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Multi-Event Registration
______________________________________________
With this release, you can allow golfers to register for multiple events with a single checkout and payment. Each registration will be processed as a separate payment to provide full reporting granularity.
This option can be enabled in the Registration tab in Customer Settings (as shown below).
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Option to Stop Text Messages
______________________________________________
In January, we introduced the ability to send customized text messages to players in your roster. In today's release, we now automatically add a short message at the end of every text (as shown below) to give the recipient the ability to opt out of future text messages. If a golfer texts "STOP", they will not receive any further text messages for any events. At that point, they will have the option to text "START" to resume receiving text messages.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
New Look for Directory Pages
______________________________________________
Directories allow you to organize events into lists (e.g. Men's Events, Women's Events, Junior Events, etc), make these lists available through your club or association website, and allow golfers to register for your events. With this release, we've given these directory pages a new look as shown below.
Handicap Options for 3/3/3, 6/6/6, and 9/9
______________________________________________
3/3/3, 6/6/6, and 9/9 allow you to run different tournament formats (e.g. best ball, alt shot, scramble) in a single round.
In these cases, you might want to use different handicap allowances for each format. For example, you might use 90% for male players and 95% for female players in the best ball while using 100% for the scramble. As shown below, you're now able to control these handicap options by selecting the "Advanced Handicaps" button under each group of holes when setting up the tournament.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Improved Wording in Email Confirmations
______________________________________________
With this release, the wording used for various email confirmations (e.g. player registers for event, player signs up for waiting list, player promoted from waiting list, player cancels registration, etc) has been improved to provide a clear message along with the event name, event date, and (if applicable) the registration amount.
In the example below, we show an email confirmation for a player who has been placed on a waiting list.
Hole Location Sheets
______________________________________________
Prior to this release, hole location sheets were printed in three columns with holes 1-6 in the left column, holes 7-12 in the center column, and holes 13-18 in the right column.
With today's release, we've introduced a new option (as shown below) that allows the hole location sheet to be printed with the front nine on the top half of the sheet and the back nine on the bottom half of the sheet. This is a good option when the hole location sheets need to be folded in half and placed in carts.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Team HBH Score Entry in Mobile App
______________________________________________
In January, we introduced the optional ability for managers to skip individual HBH scores and enter only team HBH scores for team competitions where individual scores are not applicable (e.g. alternate shot, scramble, etc).
With today's release, we introduced the same capability in mobile score entry through the iOS and Android mobile app (as shown below).
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Handicap Master Integration
______________________________________________
In the past, customers managing handicaps through Handicap Master have had to update handicaps and post scores via spreadsheet.
With today's release, clubs using Handicap Master can now update handicaps and post scores automatically within Golf Genius.
To enable this integration, contact Support.
Tour Management
______________________________________________
Golf tours sometimes have multiple "local tours" within their organization. To better organize and manage these cases, we've developed the Tour Management feature which allows you to:
Create multiple tours within your account
Assign managers to specific tours
Link players to specific tours
Link events to specific tours
Assign season points to specific tours
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.

The improvements summarized below were motivated by user feedback. We're excited to deliver this latest version of Golf Genius as we continue to listen, learn, and improve the product. If you have any questions, please contact our support team.
Quick Event Setup
______________________________________________
Quick Event Setup is a major new feature that streamlines the steps to create simple single-round games.
From user feedback, we learned that you wanted an easy and quick way to set up the smaller games that are common at clubs and courses. To address this, Quick Event Setup allows you to enter the minimal information required and quickly generate scorecards and printed materials. If needed, you can easily navigate to the full set of advanced features including management of divisions and flights, a full library of tournament formats, and more.
Here's a short video to show you how it works.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Match Play Display On TV Leaderboards
______________________________________________
For bracket-based match play tournaments, the Bracket View (as shown below) can be displayed on the TV leaderboard.
However, larger brackets (32 players or higher) do not render well on the TV leaderboard due to their size and the fixed form factor of a TV display. In these cases, you now have the option to show the Match View (as shown below) on the TV leaderboard. Or you can show both the Bracket View and the Match View (as the TV leaderboard pages rotate through their sequence).
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Division, Flight, and Team in Pairings Page
______________________________________________
The Pairings Page is used to organize players into pairings and assign starting time, starting hole, and course/tee. Often times, you need to switch players around to different groups. To do this, you need to see additional information (e.g. gender, Handicap Index, etc) under each player's name in order to make it easier to see how you have each pairing organized and help you make any necessary switches.
With this release, division, flight, and team have been added to the set of fields available as additional information under each player's name. The example below shows the Pairings Page with division under each player's name.
Season Point Allocation Based on Field Size
______________________________________________
Season points are sometimes awarded based on the number of players in the field. In order to handle this case prior to today's release, you had to set up a separate point structure for each field size and manually select the appropriate structure based on the size of a particular event. With this release, you now have the ability to define a single point structure that contains multiple rules based on the number of players in the field (as shown below). In this way, you can create a single point structure, assign it to your event, and the points will be automatically awarded based on the number of players in the field.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) Export
______________________________________________
The World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) is a weekly ranking of the best amateurs in the world based on 2,600 tournaments each year. Clubs and associations who administer these tournaments are required to provide the tournament results to WAGR in a standard spreadsheet format. With this release, we now provide the ability to automatically produce the WAGR spreadsheet to exactly match the WAGR specifications.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Default Event Descriptions
______________________________________________
Each event has its own event portal. Typically you'll set up an event information page (using the collage page widget) to act as the landing page for a given event portal. Prior to this release, you would be required to edit the event information page to reflect the specific details of the event (e.g. event name, event date, registration opening date, etc).
With this release, you can now create a default event description (such as the one shown below) using dynamic data tokens. In this way, any newly created events can inherit an event information page and automatically display the correct information without any additional steps required. For any given event, you can override the default event description and customize the event information page as needed.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Division Registration
______________________________________________
Online registration is a useful feature that allows golfers to register and pay for events. In this release, you now have a new option for events with multiple divisions. You're now able to:
Establish eligibility criteria for each division
Configure your registration form to allow golfers to select their division (as shown below)
Limit the number of players in each division
Set a different price for each division
After a player completes their registration, they are automatically assigned into the appropriate division in the event roster.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Transaction History Page
______________________________________________
In this release, we've added a Transaction History page (as shown below) that allows you to view and search the full history of payments and refunds arising from online payments for events, membership programs, and donations. You can also use this page to process refunds, export the data to a spreadsheet, and take other actions.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Automatic Refunds
______________________________________________
After a player registers online and pays to enter an event, they sometimes later need to cancel. In these cases, the player may be entitled to a full refund, a partial refund, or no refund depending on the policy of the club or association and depending on when the player cancels. Often, these cancellation policies call for different levels of refund depending on when the player cancels (e.g. full refund if cancelled more than 7 days in advance and no refund thereafter).
In this release, we've introduced the ability to define one or more refund policies where each refund policy can be configured with one or more rules based on when the cancellation date falls.
When you later create the registration options for an event, you can select whether refunds will be manual or automatic (as shown below). If automatic, you can select the refund policy that should be applied.
If automatic refunds have been configured and a golfer cancels, the refund is automatically calculated and processed without any manual intervention required on your part.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Donations
______________________________________________
With this release, you can now allow golfers to make donations during the online registration process. As shown below, the golfer can select from a set of amounts (that you configure) and the donation is automatically added to the total before they complete their credit card payment.
It's also possible to deploy a dedicated donation page independent from the online registration process.
For full details, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
January 30, 2018
Today we released features including text messaging, team hole-by-hole score entry, a new option to reduce each hole handicap to a half shot, and responsive directory pages. These features will save you time and improve the golfer experience.
Text Messaging
______________________________________________
With this release managers can now send text messages to some or all players in their master roster, event roster, or round roster. Texts can be constructed (as shown below) using various dynamic data fields (e.g. name, course, tee time, etc). This allows the manager to send customized messages to each golfer with a single push of the "send" button.
In this initial release, text messaging is only available for phone numbers using the country code +1 (USA, Canada, and most of the Caribbean).
For full details on Text Messages, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Team Hole by Hole Scores
______________________________________________
In team competitions where individual scores are not applicable (e.g. alternate shot, scramble, etc), players will record only the Team Hole by Hole (HBH) score on the scorecard. In team competitions where individual scores are applicable (e.g. better ball), the manager may (sometimes) wish to skip the entry of individual HBH scores and enter only the team HBH score.
With these cases in mind, we've now introduced the optional ability for players and managers to skip individual HBH scores and enter only team HBH scores (as shown below).
To enable this option for a particular event, go to "Advanced Options" under the "Tournaments" page.
It should be noted that this method of entering scores is often not compatible with other tournament formats. If such tournaments are detected, we will default to individual HBH score entry.
For full details on entering Team Hole by Hole scores, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Reducing each Hole's Handicap by 50%
______________________________________________
New with this release is the ability to award a half shot for each full shot that would have otherwise been awarded on each hole. This is most popular within a net skins competition as it limits the number of canceled skins. You can enable this behavior under "Advanced Handicap Options" on the "Tournaments" page, as shown in the screenshot below.
For full details on Reducing each Hole's Handicap Strokes by 50%, refer to our Knowledge Base article.
Responsive Directory Pages
____________________________________________________
Directories are a popular feature. This feature allows the manager to organize events into lists (e.g. Men's Events, Women's Events, etc) and allows golfers to visit a webpage (Directory page) to view a given list of events, select an event, view the event details, and register for the event. The event list (Directory page) includes several columns including the event name, event date, registration open/close dates, etc.
With this release, the event list (Directory page) has been converted to a responsive design which will automatically adjust the presentation of the list to best fit the size of the screen. When viewed in a mobile device, the list will be displayed as shown below.
Payment Processing for Waitlists and Pending Registration
______________________________________________________________
If an event is full, players have the option to sign up for the waiting list. In these cases, some managers may prefer to charge the player's credit card at the time they sign up (and later process a refund for any waitlisted players who do not make it into the event). Other managers may prefer to validate and collect credit card information when the player signs up and later charge the player's credit card if and when they are promoted into the event roster.
This consideration also applies when Pending Registration is used.
With this release, the manager can select the approach that they prefer using the Customer Setting shown below.
These improvements were motivated by user feedback. We're excited to deliver this latest version of Golf Genius as we continue to listen, learn, and improve the product.
