Show or Hide Inactive Patients and Contacts When Searching

Use the “Show inactive patients/contacts when searching” setting to choose whether inactive patients and contacts appear when you search in the compose window or the Address Book.

Why do inactive patients show up when I search for a patient?

A practice setting called Show inactive patients/contacts when searching controls this. When it’s checked, inactive patients and contacts appear in search results alongside active ones. It applies when you search in:

  • The compose window, for example when sending a document, fax or message to a patient’s chart

  • The Address Book

Note: This is a setting, not a browser problem. Clearing your cache or switching browsers won’t change which patients appear.

How do I hide inactive patients and contacts from search results?

  1. In the Updox Inbox, select Admin (top right).

  2. Select Practice Settings.

  3. Near the top of the page, under Practice Timezone, uncheck Show inactive patients/contacts when searching.

  4. Save your changes (top right corner).

Only active patients and contacts will appear when you search.

How do I show inactive patients and contacts again?

  1. Go to Inbox > Admin > Practice Settings.

  2. Check Show inactive patients/contacts when searching.

  3. Save your changes.

Does hiding inactive patients delete them?

No. This setting only changes what appears when you search. Inactive patients and contacts stay in Updox.
