How to Create a Battery Proposal Using the New Flow?

Why is it important?

The new Battery proposal flow walks you through every detail of a battery proposal in one guided wizard: job type, address, installer, batteries, adders, site details, utility rates and consumption. Every battery proposal is built the same way, with fewer missed details, and the pricing is ready as soon as you click Finish.

What will you need?

  • The Enable Battery New Proposal Flow setting turned on by your admin.

  • An existing customer with a confirmed address.

  • At least one installer with batteries added to its database.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: From the main menu, click “Customers”.

Step 2: Click the name of the customer you want to create a proposal for. You can also create a new customer by clicking “New Customer”.

Step 3: On the customer page, click “New Proposal”.

Step 4: Under Select Job Type, click “Battery Only”.

Step 5: Check the customer’s address and click “Yes, Use This Address”. If the battery will be installed somewhere else, click “Different Address”.

Step 6: Select the installer for the proposal and click “Next”. You can use the search bar to find an installer quickly.

Step 7: Under Primary Battery Type, click “Select a battery”.

Step 8: Choose a battery from the list. Each card shows the manufacturer, capacity (kWh), warranty and estimated backup time. Use the filter or the search bar to narrow the list. In this walkthrough/workflow, we searched for “Powerwall 3”.

Step 9: Set the Quantity and the Battery configuration, then click “Next”.

  • Backup mode: choose Backup to keep power for outages, or Non-backup. With Backup, use the slider to set the Backup percentage.

  • Battery mode: Self consumption is labeled “Maximize own use”. Energy arbitrage is labeled “Buy low, sell high”.

  • Secondary Battery Type is optional and must be the same type as the primary battery.

Step 10: On the Adders step, add any adders the job needs, then click “Next”. If the installer has no adders set up, the step shows “No adders available” and you can continue.

Step 11: Fill in the Site Details: Property Type, Mounting Type (Roof Mount, Ground Mount or Roof Mount (New Home Construction)) and Roof Type.

Step 12: Choose the Contract Language, then click “Next”.

Step 13: Under Utility & Rates, select the customer’s utility provider. You can search for it by name.

Step 14: Check the Current rate schedule and Post-install rate schedule. If the customer’s actual bill differs from the Estimated Rate, enter the Real Rate for more accurate savings. Click “Next”.

Step 15: On Input Consumption, review or enter the customer’s usage. You can enter it as Annual, Monthly Avg or Monthly, in $ or kWh. At the bottom of the page, choose whether the home has an Existing solar system. If the home already has solar, select Yes; its production is used to size the battery and calculate savings.

Step 16: Click “Finish”.

Step 17: The battery proposal is created and opens on the Pricing tab, where you can choose the finance option (Cash, Lease/PPA, Line of Credit or Loan). The other tabs (Equipment, Adders, Discounts, Savings, Utility, Site, Details and Activity) show the details you entered.

Real Life Scenario

A homeowner wants battery backup for power outages but is not adding solar. The sales rep opens the customer, starts a new proposal, selects Battery Only, picks the installer and a backup battery, keeps Backup mode on with a 20% reserve, confirms the utility and usage, and clicks Finish. The proposal is priced and ready to present.

Pro Tip

Ask the customer for a recent utility bill before you start. Entering the real rate and monthly usage makes the savings in the proposal match what the customer actually pays.

Troubleshooting

The new battery flow does not appear: Ask your admin to check that Enable Battery New Proposal Flow is turned on in Settings → Proposal Settings, then refresh the page.

No batteries are available on the Equipment step: The selected installer has no batteries in its database. Go back to the Installer step and choose another installer, or ask your admin to add batteries.

The Next button is greyed out on Equipment: Select a primary battery first. The secondary battery is optional.

The Roof Type list is empty: No roof types are set up for this installer. You can continue without one, or ask your admin to add roof types to the database.
