Connect Slack so Coworker can understand your team's conversations. Slack has two authentication planes that do not substitute for each other: an admin bot installation, which is what indexing runs on, and individual connections for tools and private interactions.
What Coworker can do with Slack
Index channels and shared message history
Produce one report per channel with real conversation: the discussion threads, participants and notable outcomes, with quotes traceable back to the channel
Search Slack live and post messages when a task explicitly requires it
Deliver real-time updates through webhooks
Each channel becomes a Document entity and every member becomes a Person entity anchored on their email, so one human is one node across all your sources. Visibility follows the channel: a private channel's report is only visible to that channel's members.
Before you start
The bot installation is required. By default the bot will join public channels including Slack connect channels if they're public. This can be sequenced if you need to communicate this to your organization first - let your Onboarder know during Implementation
A workspace where everyone has connected Slack personally but no admin has installed the bot has no indexed Slack content at all.
You need Slack permission to install apps into your workspace. This is typically available to the Workspace Owner or Workspace Admin role.
Connect Slack as an admin
Open Source Settings from the admin settings in Coworker and select Slack.
Install the Coworker bot into your Slack workspace and approve the full read scope set.
Invite the bot to any private channels you want indexed. Administrator status alone does not let a bot read private channels.
On Enterprise Grid, an org-wide install can cover multiple workspaces. Supply an explicit workspace/team ID if prompted.
If your workspace requires app approval, pre-approve both Coworker apps (the Coworker bot and Coworker for individuals) in Manage apps before inviting your team. On Enterprise plans, check that the org policy 'Only allow members to install apps from the Slack Marketplace' is off
Connect Slack as a member
Go to the Work page and click Data Sources.
Select Slack and complete the authorization.
Optionally enable webhooks for real-time updates.
Your individual connection does not index channels; channels come from the bot. It can retrieve DMs and group chats as well as write to slack - it lets Coworker act in Slack as you.
Connecting multiple Slack workspaces
Coworker supports connecting more than one Slack workspace to a single network. If your organization operates across multiple Slack workspaces — for example, a primary company workspace and a secondary workspace for a specialized team, acquired entity, or external collaboration — you can connect all of them so Coworker's OM2 knowledge graph captures the full picture.
For Admins: connect an additional workspace
You must be a Coworker Network Admin to complete this step.
Go to Settings > Admin > Source Settings.
Under Slack, click Connect another workspace. (This option appears when at least one Slack workspace is already connected.)
Within the OAuth flow, select the Slack workspace you want to add and authorize the Coworker app.
The new workspace appears as an additional entry under the Slack source. Repeat for any further workspaces.
Note: Each workspace requires its own OAuth authorization. Allow a few minutes after connecting for initial indexing to complete.
For Users: connect your personal account to additional workspaces
Individual connections let Coworker access your DMs and private channel history in each workspace you belong to. They are separate from — and do not replace — the admin-level connections.
Go to Settings > Data Sources > Connected.
Under Slack, click the three dots, then Connect another workspace.
Sign in to the Slack workspace and authorize.
Repeat for each additional workspace you want to connect personally.
Good to know
DMs and group DMs can be indexed if the user selects this option when connecting.
You can @coworker from any channel with the Coworker bot added and access coworker directly within Slack.
