How to connect DocuSign to Coworker

Connect DocuSign so Coworker can read your envelopes, their documents, and your templates, and keep your team's knowledge of every agreement up to date.

Before you start

  • A production DocuSign account on the Business Pro plan or higher. These plans include API access. This is the account with your real envelopes.

  • A free DocuSign developer account. You create the integration key here. Sign up at developers.docusign.com and choose the free developer account, not a paid developer plan. You do not need to link it to your production account yet; the Go-Live step does that.

  • A DocuSign administrator for the production account and a Coworker admin. This can be the same person.

Note: Part 1 can take a few days, because DocuSign must confirm Go-Live by email. If you are a team member and an admin has already saved the key, skip to Part 2.

Part 1: Add your DocuSign integration key (once, by an admin)

Step 1: Create the integration key in the developer account

  1. Sign in to your developer account and open Admin > Apps and Keys.

  2. Click Add App and Integration Key and name the app (for example, Coworker).

  3. For the integration type, choose Third-party integration.

  4. Save the app.

Step 2: Link the app to your production account (Go-Live)

  1. In the developer account, open Admin > Apps and Keys, click Actions on your app, and click Select Go-Live account.

  2. Sign in to your production account as an administrator and select the account to use with this app.

  3. Click the link that now shows under the app, complete the Go-Live verification form, and sign it.

  4. Wait for the confirmation email from DocuSign.

Step 3: Add the secret key and redirect URI in the production account

  1. After the confirmation email arrives, sign in to your production account and open Admin > Apps and Keys. Your app now appears here.

  2. Edit the app and click Add Secret Key. Copy the secret key right away, because DocuSign shows it only once.

  3. In Coworker, open the DocuSign connect form (see Step 4). Copy the redirect URI it shows, then return to DocuSign, click Add URI, and paste it exactly. DocuSign accepts only an exact match.

  4. Save the app, then copy the Integration Key and the API Account ID from this page.

Important: Use only values from the production account. The secret key, redirect URIs, and API account ID from the developer account do not work in production.

Step 4: Save the key in Coworker

  1. In Coworker, go to Settings > Source Settings, find DocuSign, and click Connect. You can also connect from your onboarding data sources screen.

  2. Under Step 1: Integration key, set Environment to Production (account.docusign.com).

  3. Paste the Integration key, Secret key, and API account ID from your production account.

  4. Click Save key. Coworker shows DocuSign connected!

Optional: authorize as a DocuSign administrator

After you save the key, the form shows Step 2 (optional): Authorize as DocuSign admin. You can click Skip this step, and everyone can still connect. If a DocuSign account administrator authorizes, Coworker also reads your DocuSign user list, your groups, and envelopes sent from inside your account that no connected person can see. Click Authorize as DocuSign admin and sign in as an administrator of the account you entered above.

Optional: test with the developer account first

The developer account contains no real data, so you can try Coworker before Go-Live. In the developer account, add a secret key and the Coworker redirect URI, then save the key in Coworker with Environment set to Developer demo (account-d.docusign.com). When you move to production, replace the key in Coworker. Everyone who connected to the developer account must then connect again.

Part 2: Connect your own DocuSign login (each person)

  1. In Coworker, go to Settings > Data Sources.

  2. Find DocuSign and click Connect.

  3. Sign in to DocuSign if prompted.

  4. Review the permissions and click Allow Access.

  5. You return to Coworker, and DocuSign shows as Connected.

Note: If you can't connect, ask your Coworker admin to confirm the integration key has been saved. Nobody can connect until it is.

What you are authorizing

  • Use DocuSign as you. Coworker reads the envelopes, documents, and templates you can see. When you ask an agent to create, send, update, resend, or void an envelope, or to create a signing link, it uses your login.

  • Keep access when you are signed out. Coworker reads new DocuSign activity on a schedule.

Coworker does not change anything in DocuSign unless you ask an agent to.

After connecting

  • The first read can take a little while. Your envelopes and documents start appearing shortly after, and new activity shows up within hours.

  • Scanned PDFs are not read, because Coworker does not run OCR on them.

Who can see an envelope in Coworker

An envelope is visible to its sender, its recipients, and teammates whose own DocuSign login can see it. Templates are visible to their owner and to teammates whose own login can see them. Nothing is shared company-wide by default.

A Coworker admin can grant DocuSign access to a person or a group. That grant shows all of your company's DocuSign data to them, including other people's envelopes, so use it only on purpose. Full Workspace Access is not available for DocuSign.

Change or rotate the key

  • New secret key, same integration key: In DocuSign, add a second secret key to the same integration key. In Coworker, click Replace key and save the new secret key. After the next sync, delete the old secret key in DocuSign. Nobody has to reconnect.

  • Different key or environment (for example, developer to production): Save the new values in Coworker. Every person must connect DocuSign again.

Troubleshooting

  • "This DocuSign user has no access to the DocuSign account that your administrator configured." You signed in with a login that is not a user of your company's DocuSign account. Sign out of DocuSign and connect again with your work login. If it continues, ask your admin to check the API account ID and Environment in Coworker.

  • "This DocuSign user is not an account administrator." Only a DocuSign account administrator can complete the optional admin step. Ask one to do it, or click Skip this step.

  • DocuSign shows a redirect URI error. The URI in DocuSign does not exactly match the one in the Coworker form. Copy it again from the form, and make sure you added it in the production account too.

  • It worked with the developer account but not in production. Check that you received the Go-Live confirmation email, added a new secret key and the redirect URI in the production account, used the production API account ID, and set Environment to Production.

  • The app does not appear in the production account. Go-Live is not complete. Confirm you signed the verification form and received DocuSign's confirmation email.

  • DocuSign does not offer API access. Your production plan is below Business Pro. Upgrade your plan or contact DocuSign.

  • I cannot see a colleague's envelopes. This is expected. Each login reads only what its owner can see. Ask your colleague to connect their own DocuSign.
