How to manage project components

Summary

  1. Components in ConCntric are a way of organizing your total project estimate. They can represent locations, areas, or different part of the project. They are created upon uploading your first project estimate.

  2. To edit a component, go to the component page click on the three dots and choose Edit. We strongly advise against deleting a component since it will affect value optioneering items related to it.

  3. Each component should be classified according to Omniclass. This classification is used throughout the platform to filter or organize charts and tables.

  4. The budget and the area of the component are only descriptive here, they are not part of calculations. The idea is that you want your project budget to be equal to the sum of the components budgets. Same thing with areas, they represent your plans or budget, not the actuals.

  5. The actual assigned area and number of units are part of the program page. Any changes you make here will affect the calculations throughout the different solutions.

  6. These values can also be changed when publishing a new estimate. You will be prompted to update the program.

  7. In the components page, you can activate custom attributes to add more details to the components.

  8. You might notice on some projects that there is an Overall Project component with zero area and zero budget. This component is automatically created by ConCntric when you assign a value optioneering item to the overall project instead of one component. We advise against deleting this component unless you edit all value optioneering items referring to the overall projects and make them affect specific components.

FAQ

Can I add a component at a later stage in my project?

Yes, components can be added at any time based on how cost breakouts are tracked in your estimate.

Can I delete a component? What do I do if I did?

As a best practice, components should not be deleted since there may be cost data, value optioneering items, or other items associated with them. If you delete a component by accident, please reach out to your Customer Success team directly via the Support Chat, email or phone.

Can I breakout components by division, e.g. concrete, masonry, and so on?

It is recommended to setup components as they relate to major building areas or cost breakouts, e.g. Site, Parking, Hospital. Through MasterFormat, UnitFormat or any other work breakdown structure, you are already capturing costs by division. Components are intended to give you additional insight and analysis capabilities.
