How to Set up Escalation Value?

Why Is It Important?

Moving escalation into Settings from the proposal details page gives your organization one central place to control a value that directly affects what customers pay over time. Because only admins can edit it, sales reps can no longer change escalation on individual proposals, which keeps pricing consistent and reduces the risk of accidental or unauthorized changes. The minimum and maximum limits also set clear boundaries, so everyone works within the same approved range. And since the value applies to unsigned proposals, admins can update pricing strategy without disturbing deals that are already closed.

What Will You Need?

  • You will need admin access to your organization’s account, since only admins can edit the escalation value that gets applied to proposals.

  • You should also decide in advance on the minimum and maximum escalation values and the default value you want applied to proposals.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: From your organization profile, click “Settings”.

Step 2: Under Sales Proposals, locate and click “Proposal Settings”.

Step 3: Click the “Edit” icon.

Step 4: Scroll down to the escalation part. Set the Minimum and Maximum Escalation value. Additionally, you can also set the Escalation value that will be applied to the proposal. Only admins can edit the latter.

Step 5: Scroll up and click “Update”.

Note: The change affects only new-flow solar proposals that haven’t been signed yet. Proposals not yet signed are not affected.

Real-Life Scenario

Mary is an admin at a solar company. Her team has noticed that sales reps are entering different escalation rates on similar proposals, which leads to inconsistent pricing and some confusion with customers. Mary opens Settings, goes to Proposal Settings and clicks Edit. She sets the minimum escalation to 1%, the maximum to 4% and the applied value to 2.5%, then clicks Update.

From then on, every new-flow solar proposal that hasn’t been signed uses the 2.5% value, and reps can no longer change it on their own. A proposal that a customer signed last week keeps its original escalation, so nothing changes for deals already closed.

Pro Tip

Review your escalation values before making a change, and update them at a time when few proposals are waiting for signatures. Because the new value applies to all unsigned new-flow solar proposals, a change made in the middle of a busy period can alter the numbers customers are already looking at. If you need to make an adjustment, it is a good idea to let your sales team know first so they can inform any customers with open proposals.

Troubleshooting

If you can’t find the escalation settings, go to Settings, then Sales Proposals, then Proposal Settings, and make sure you have clicked the Edit icon, since the fields are not editable until then. If you can see the Minimum and Maximum fields but cannot edit the applied escalation value, your account likely doesn’t have admin access, so ask an admin in your organization to make the change.

If a signed proposal still shows the old escalation value, this is expected, because the new value applies only to proposals that haven’t been signed. If an unsigned proposal isn’t reflecting the new value, check that it was created in the new flow, as the setting applies only to new-flow solar proposals. If your changes don’t appear after editing, confirm that you clicked Update at the top of the page to save them.
