Why Does It Matter?
Red Line Management allows organizations to control minimum proposal PPW based on the user's role while also giving specific users the option to have their own Red Line modifier.
This provides more flexibility than a single organization-wide Red Line. User can follow the modifier assigned to their role, while individual users can have a different modifier when needed.
The user-specific setting always takes priority over the role-based setting.
What You'll Need
Access to SubcontractorHub with Red Line Management enabled for your organization.
A Customer Experience Manager must first enable and configure the Red Line Management feature.
The EPC organization must have Red Line values configured for the applicable states.
The Sales Organization must be connected to the appropriate EPC organization.
How Red Line Management Works
Red Line Management uses two values to determine the minimum PPW on a proposal:
Base Red Line + Modifier = New Red Line
For example, if an EPC has set a Base Red Line of $2.00/W for a state and the applicable modifier is $0.15/W, the resulting Red Line becomes $2.15/W.
This means the proposal cannot go below the resulting minimum PPW.
Role-Based Modifiers
A modifier can be assigned based on a user's role. Users with that role will use the modifier assigned to the role unless they have their own user-specific override.
User Overrides
A specific user can have a different modifier from the one assigned to their role.
When a user override exists, it takes priority over the role-based modifier.
For example, if an Office Manager role has a $0.10/W modifier but one Office Manager has a user-specific modifier of $0.15/W, that user's $0.15/W modifier will be used.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Open Red Line Management
Go to the "Red Line Management" section.
Step 2: Select the EPC Organization
Select the connected EPC organization whose Red Line settings you want to manage.
Step 3: Review the Base Red Line
Review the Base Red Line values displayed for the selected EPC.
The Base Red Line can vary by state based on the values configured by the EPC.
Step 4: Review the Red Line Rules
Review the available Red Line rules for the selected EPC.
These rules determine the Red Line values that will be used for the applicable states.
Step 5: Review User Overrides
Open the "User Overrides" section.
Review the users who have a specific Red Line modifier assigned to them.
The number of users with overrides is also displayed.
Step 6: Update a Red Line Modifier
Select the state or states where you want to update the modifier.
Enter the required modifier for each state.
Step 7: Update Multiple States
Use the available bulk option when the same modifier needs to be applied across multiple states.
Select the applicable states and apply the modifier.
Step 8: Set a User-Specific Override
Select the user who needs a different Red Line modifier from their role.
Enter the required modifier for that user.
The user-specific modifier will take priority over the modifier assigned to their role.
How the Red Line Is Applied to a Proposal
When a proposal is gated through the connected EPC organization, the applicable Red Line is used when the proposal's PPW is changed.
For example:
EPC Base Red Line: $2.00/W
Applicable Modifier: $0.15/W
New Red Line: $2.15/W
The resulting $2.15/W becomes the minimum PPW that must be maintained on the proposal.
If the user has a specific override, the system uses that user's modifier instead of the modifier assigned to their role.
Pro Tip
Use role-based modifiers when multiple users should follow the same pricing rules, and use user overrides only when an individual representative needs a different Red Line.
This keeps the pricing structure consistent without forcing every user into the same Red Line.
Real-World Example
An EPC sets a Base Red Line of $2.00/W for a particular state.
The Sales Organization assigns a $0.15/W modifier to the Sales Representative role. All sales representatives therefore have a minimum Red Line of $2.15/W.
One senior representative, however, needs a different modifier of $0.20/W. A user-specific override is added for that representative.
That user's Red Line becomes $2.20/W, while other representatives with the same role continue using the $2.15/W Red Line.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Solution |
Red Line Management is not visible | Confirm that Red Line Management has been enabled and configured by the Customer Experience Manager. |
The expected Base Red Line is not showing | Check that you have selected the correct connected EPC organization and that the applicable state has a Red Line configured. |
A user is not using the role-based modifier | Check whether that user has a user-specific override. User overrides take priority over role-based settings. |
The Red Line is different from the expected value | Check the selected state, the EPC's Base Red Line, and the applicable role or user modifier. |
The proposal is not reflecting the expected minimum PPW | Confirm that the proposal is being gated through the correct EPC organization and that the applicable Red Line settings are configured for the state. |
