Meez System Ingredients and Allergens
Every meez system ingredient contains allergen information. This means that using a meez system ingredient like Parmegiano Reggiano will automatically attach "Milk" as an allergen to your recipe.
When you create your own ingredient, you can manually select which allergens apply to that ingredient.
USDA Ingredient vs Display Name
You may want to change how an ingredient is displayed on your nutrition label. To do that, simply type in the preferred ingredient name in the field under "Display Name for Nutrition Label." In summary, the meez platform simplifies ingredient tracking by defaulting to composite ingredient names but allows flexibility through the customization of Display Name fields. By listing sub-ingredients manually, users can meet specific labeling preferences and ensure compliance with detailed labeling requirements where necessary.
Default Labeling Behavior
By default, when you map a composite ingredient (e.g., mayonnaise) to a corresponding USDA ingredient or similar, meez will display only the name of the composite ingredient on the recipe's ingredient list. Sub-ingredients, such as oil or eggs in mayonnaise, are not automatically broken down or displayed on the label. This default setting ensures simplicity but may not meet the detailed labeling requirements some users may have.
Manually Displaying Sub-Ingredients
To include the sub-ingredients of a composite ingredient on your recipe's label, you can manually customize the entry by using the “Display name” field within the ingredient setup. Here’s how:
Navigate to the recipe where the composite ingredient is listed.
Click Edit and then click on the nutrition tab
In the nutrition section, select the composite ingredient you wish to edit.
Locate the “Display name” field in the ingredient settings.
Enter the desired text, listing all sub-ingredients or any additional information you wish to appear on the recipe label.
Save your changes. The text in the "Display name" field will now replace the default ingredient name on the recipe's label and show exactly as you’ve entered it. This feature allows for full customization to meet specific labeling preferences or requirements.
Labels
Once your ingredients are connected to the USDA database, and your serving size is entered, a nutrition label will appear at the bottom of the Nutrition tab.
Please Note: The nutrition and allergen analysis in your recipe is based on information set in each individual ingredient of the recipe by the creator or editor. The label generated is not FDA compliant until verified by a registered dietician. Learn more about achieving FDA compliance and working with our recommended nutrition experts here
