Notes about Shopify's new account management system and point display

How to give customers access to their points

Shopify is currently moving towards complete migration to the new account management system, and the sunset of the legacy account it said to be near.

In this page we will explain how easyPoints works with the new account system.

What is the difference?

The legacy account was based on emails and passwords, and had a very clear distinction between sign up users and guests. On the other hand the new account system only uses the email and the one-time passcode, and the concept of "sing-up" is no longer a thing.

How it effects easyPoints

easyPoints will experience the following changes

  1. Sing up rewards

Since signing up is no longer a thing, easyPoints will not be able to reward customers for their sign ups. Since Shopify's mechanism regarding the account management is still unclear, easyPoints will deactivate the sign up reward automatically under customer account v2.

If you wish to continue the usage of the reward, please set up an automated flow in Shopify Flow, by using the customer created trigger.

  2. Account page modification

The new account system's customer page is generated by Shopify, and does not allow any modification through the theme code. Therefor, all customizations that took place in the account page in our theme integration support will no longer be available.

In order to insert point related information inside the new account page, please utilize our new app block for new account pages.

  3. Analytics

In our dashboard analytics feature, we display multiple values based on the comparison between signed up customers and others. This will also not be compatible with the new account system.
