Understanding Account Inactivity and IBAN Archiving

Updated this week

What Happens If I Don’t Make Any Transactions?

We understand that many customers use their accounts purely for savings and may not make regular transactions. This article explains what happens if no transactions are made before the end of the month, and whether your funds are affected.

1. Why do inactive accounts get archived?

To keep our systems efficient and compliant with banking partners, inactive IBANs may be archived if there are no transactions for a certain period of time. This process helps us manage unused accounts while ensuring active customers continue to receive uninterrupted service.

Archiving is an administrative status change only and does not mean your account or funds are closed, frozen, or lost.

2. What happens to different currency accounts?

When an account has more than one currency balance, each currency account (such as USD or GBP) is managed independently, based on its activity and balance.

  • Unused or empty currency accounts

Currency accounts that have no balance and no transaction history may have their IBANs archived after a period of inactivity. This is an administrative action only and does not have any financial impact. If the customer needs this currency again in the future, new IBAN details can be requested at any time from the app directly.

  • Currency accounts holding funds

Currency accounts that are used to hold funds as savings, even without frequent transactions, remain fully secure.

If an IBAN linked to such an account is archived due to inactivity:

    • The funds remain safely held

    • The balance is not affected, frozen, or removed

Example

For instance, a customer may hold funds in a USD account as savings while having a GBP account that is empty and unused. In this case, the GBP IBAN may be archived due to inactivity, while the USD funds remain fully safe and available under the main account.

3. Will my main account still exist?

Yes. Your main account remains active at all times, even if individual IBANs are archived.

This means:

  • You keep full ownership of your funds

  • You can log in and view your balance as usual

  • You can request new IBAN details later to deposit or withdraw funds when needed

4. Are there any risks to my saved funds?

No. There are no risks to your money.

To be very clear:

  • ❌ Funds will not be frozen

  • ❌ Funds will not be lost

  • ❌ Funds will not be deducted or affected in any way

  • ✅ Your savings remain securely held and fully yours

Archiving only affects the IBAN’s usability, not the funds themselves.

5. Is there any harm in keeping my USD account inactive?

Not at all.

If you are using your USD account purely as savings and do not plan to transact:

  • You can safely leave your funds as they are

  • No action is required from you

6. Need to Use the Account Again? Reactivation Is Easy

You can request a new IBAN at any time directly in the app.

To reactivate:

  1. Tap the “+” icon on the Home screen under Accounts
(or go to the Home screen and use the account switching area)

  2. Select “Request a new IBAN.”

New IBAN details will be issued, and you can continue using the account as normal.
